the design of the artwork is fantastic - you can see every existing atog card older than this one displayed there. (from left bottom corner to right upper corner: Chronatog, Atog, Auratog, Necratog, Foratog).
especially the name is genious, and the stats are also suiting perfectly to this card!
yet it's such a pity he doesn't have trample. a guy like this should actually be a finisher.
maybe they didn't give him this ability as there wasn't any other atog that gained more than increased p/t.
Megatog broke this consistancy anyways some years later...

You'd need a deck built around this guy to use him, and even then it isn't worth it most of the time.
That being said, atogs are awesome.

It's not really usable, but the flavor text, art, and craziness are just amazing. 5/5

Funny, but unplayable.

but imagine an atog deck... IN EDH! YEAH! haha you need like every single permanent type in abundance. prolly use double types like artifact, land, and enchantment creatures to be able to sac easier. might as well have a bunch of goyfs too

Think about his for a second. Sac everything you can to your other atogs, artifacts, turns, enchantments, etc. Then sac those atogs to Atogatog. He'd be ridiculously strong! Now you just have to give him trample somehow...

i personally think he is amazing, like, if you swing in with him and 2 other kinds of atogs..

you can sac a bunch of stuff for the appropriate atog, then they have the dilema... block the already big regular atogs and get ready yo take a massive amount of damage from this guy, or block him and just let the others through

The fact that he doesn't inherently have trample upsets me. You would think that a five color, 5/5 legend would have trample, but maybe that's just the powercreep corrupting my reason.

It's too bad that 9/10 times, Fusion Elemental is situationally better than this funny-looking thing :/

So much better with changelings than atogs.

@Kirbster: If you're making an Atog deck, you're already doing it wrong. No reason not to throw this guy in.

I"M GOING TO MAKE AN ATOG DECK!!!
in the end he wont eat necratog, because necratog will eat his leftovers and I'll be left with two powerfull creatures for one turn....
nah they should have made this an unhinged card.
rereads card, actually he will eat necratog, just last.....

This is one of those ones that looks like an UN-card at first glance.

If I can grab this guy for EDH/Commander, Five color decks just got a hell of a lot easier to build than with progenitus.

Idea for the next "un" set.

Creature-Atogatog legend

Sacrfice a card called Atogatog: Atogatogatog gains +X/+X until end of turn, where X is twice the Atogatog's power.

I actually found a way to make this work! put lance or some other first-strike granting enchantment on Auratog. Then play enchanted evening. Then wing with both auratog and atogatog. Assuming neither are blocked, sacrifice everything but lance and atogatog to auratog, then, once auratog deals damage, sac it to the legend. This should deal a minimum 31 damage, 19 of it general damage, if this is EDH.

Yo dawg, I heard you like atogs so we put an atog in your atog so you can sacrifice while you sacrifice

If you can give him trample or any other sort of evasion (Rancor is one of the cheapest ways) he can probably be devastating.

At the very apex of the Magic: the Gathering food chain lies Atogatog, eater of eaters of... things.

Has anyone considered shapeshifters or various cloning devices? Throw this in a Soul Foundry and pay 5 per turn to make a 10/10 every turn. Have fun and make it unblockable. Or even Mirror Entity. Make all of your creatures 6/6, then sac all of them, then attack. Play Cephalid Pathmage the turn before, then tap and sac to make Atogatog unblockable.

Atogatog is funny-lookin', but he's pretty terrible. If you're playing an atog deck, you sort of feel like you should be playing their lord, which is one of the worst creatures ever, so he leads to moral dilemmas as well as lost games. An experiment: build a deck that includes Atogatog, but not Dragon Gate. I guarantee you that the deck will be better if you replace the Atogatog with a Sliver Queen, even if the deck contains zero other Slivers and many Atogs. Even if the deck contains Plague Sliver.

This card defines what the emoticon XD means.

Sacrifice an Atog: Atogatog Atogs +Atog/+Atog until end of Atog. XD

Legendary Creature — Aladeen

Sacrifice an Aladeen: Aladeenaladeen gets +X/+X until end of turn, where X is the sacrificed aladeen's power.

Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter is better than this imo, same effect, lasts indefinitely, flying and lifelink, less colours.

Atogatogatog is actually a user on this website. Unfortunately, he has only commented on 66 cards. One of them was Artful Dodge.

The only thing I really like about this is that it has all (?) of the atogs on it; and they're done so well you can tell which is which. This is probably ignorance speaking, but I don't see Necratog and a few of these don't look familiar.

HAVE NONE OF YOU POOR SOULS EVER BEEN TOLD ABOUT COMMANDER???

Seriously, not a single comment even addresses his potential as a commander. Atogatog is a hilarious and deceptively powerful general for a wacky five-color combo-control deck. You can smash in and score a commander kill, sure, aided by cards like Artful Dodge and Rancor, but the super cool way to win is to wait until your opponent is ending his turn and spring your combo: Thaumatog eats all your lands, Psychatog eats your hand, and Atogatog promptly gobbles up everything remaining, including itself. You win at upkeep with Barren Glory.

Thank you for making this card, Maro. Now please follow-up with a Maroatog. While your at it, can we please get a Marogoyf? Feel free to use any of these ideas. They are all taken from my completely tasteful fanfic Maromaro, Thirst to Desire.

@Aquillion: Well... apparently, this was lifted directly, art and all, from a cancelled silver-bordered set.
