chaosjuggler, I don't think you know what "strictly better" means. This is exactly the same as Benalish Hero unless creature type matters to you, and there's a lot more support for Soldier than for Warriors, so if anything, the Hero is better.

As for why Ice Age has so many functional reprints (see also Zuran Spellcaster or Fyndhorn Elves), it was the first time they decided that an expansion should be playable without the core sets, and there were a bunch of cards that were considered so integral to the game that they couldn't imagine an environment without them. Some, like the Circles of Protection, they just copied over with new art, but some they made functional reprints of.

Ah, Ice Age, MtG's "growing pains" era. This card is alright, pretty decent card art for those days too.

This is a card you want to play, even though you're not sure you should. It might even inspire you to make a banding deck. Mechanically this card is worse than Pikemen from my experience, but its art and flavor text are awesome.
If WotC could make a set where every bad (read: relatively unplayable) card had as much flavor as this one...

@ Avram Garrisson:
Rings of Brighthearth + Basalt Monolith (or insert your favored infinite mana combo here.)

Then; Voltaic Key + Rings of Brighthearth + Soul Foundry imprinted with Kjeldoran Warrior.

Step 1: Achieve unlimited mana.
Step 2: Activate Soul Foundry, copying it with Rings of Brighthearth, to make two Kjeldoran Warriors.
Step 3: Activate Voltaic Key, copying it with Rings of Brighthearth, to untap Voltaic Key and Soul Foundry.
Step 4: Repeat Steps 2 and 3 four-hundred and ninety-nine more times.
Step 5: Rather than question marks and profiting, why don't you just go change the world now?
Step 6: Don't band them all when you attack.

With a thousand Kjeldoran Warriors we need only fear an army of 500 kittens or 2000 small children!
