Good for fixing if you drunkenly messup what's blocking what. Other than that there's a reason all his troops were wiped out

Hes meant to mess up the other guys declare blockers step, not to correct a mistake that you might of made during yours. Am I the only white player that isn't stuck in defense mode? Sheesh.

Goes good in b/w/u decks with death touch . Attack with say a couple of tidehollow strixs', and switch his chump blockers to something worth destroying.

I always liked him for that reason, you don't see combat strategies like this in Magic really anymore.

I always liked this kind of ability. It's too bad he's so prohibitively costed. It should be a 2 mana 2/1, or something similar. The ability will almost never be relevant, but it is so much fun when it is.

Much better than people give it credit for. Being able to shift defense to whatever you want can be pretty awesome turn over turn.

Obviously weak as far as his stas, although casting cost isn't terrible at only 1W 3C

General Jarkeld should've had a cooler card. Or at least had +1/+1 or cost 1 less to be a little less underwhelming (preferrably both, but this is Ice Age). Ah well.

Much more playable than sorrow's path.

Wow, this is different and great, it makes you able to tactically outdo your opponent, very interesting card, I like it. Feels like a general. Great as an EDH general.

@GrimGorganBC you can only switch blockers - creatures already blocking, not select new blockers

Can be useful in defence when an attacking trampler gets pumped, but like Mrradhatter says it's an attacking card. I love the card and try to build it into a deck - but on the rare occasion he looks useful he just gets removed... must try harder, new G/W pumped-trample deck on the way!

I remember being very impressed by this card back in the day.

It was a LEGEND! I had heard of them. In a set which was totally sold out, utterly unavailable by the time I started playing Magic (Ice Age was the first expansion to appear after I had started playing).

Also, it was mono-colored!

WHAT IS THIS MADNESS??

So... let say to make it easy 2 goblin heroes attack and are block by two creatures. Does this card mean you can switch *only* the blocking creatures? Or can the attacker pick any creature you have that isn't tapped but not chosen for defence and say: he cops it?

To the Gate to Phyrexia rides the Knight Exemplar, her War Hawk perched on her wrist, her Attended Knight bearing a proud Capashen Standard, fluttering in the breeze as she surveys the Tainted Field before her. The Ring of Thune she wears glints in the Serene Sunset as she hefts her Loxodon Warhammer and shoulders her Angelic Armaments, gifts from Avacyn herself.

"Rally!" she cries to her Elite Vanguard. "Rally the Troops, and alert General Jarkeld that this Foul Presence will soon be Purged from the Living Lands!"

"Death or Glory!"

Hmm. Wondering if this could work rather well with Gustcloak Savior here. Swing with everything bar the general, then pull all creatures out of combat barring the two you can comfortably swap around to kill something. Nice.

Lots of fun in multiplayer.

Pity they didn't make a timeshifted variant for this guy (using the full name General Jarkeld, the Arctic Fox would have worked); I like the idea of a creature representing the ultimate general. But he needs a cooler ability, a lower cost, better numbers, or all three.

Hexproof or shroud would also fit, since the whole idea behind arctic foxes is that they're tough to catch.

For a legendary general mentioned in the flavor text of so many cards, a character so pivotal to the storyline of Ice Age, this card freaking sucks. Compare to a modern legendary soldier like Odric, Master Tactician.
