Bizarrely, this got a lot better with Zendikar's Allies. A deck with white mana, lots of nonwhite creature cards, which likes getting multiple uses of its creatures' enter-the-battlefield effects, and particularly likes ways to get certain effects (flying, damage) at instant speed? :D
A Turn 4 Inkwell Leviathan that returns to your hand after combat? Scary.

Broken, why is this under 3?
Reiver Demon for one, but theres a ton of other creatures with AoE nukes. So easy to abuse, and this is legal in every format short of standard and extended.
though: Reiver Demon has to be cast from your hand to nuke, bu this card puts a creature in play from your hand... then what?

@Bigg_ol & WrathofShane Reiver says you must "cast" him, this says "put into play." There's a reason the restriction the demon exists.
There is no combo with Reiver demon, and there *are* viritually no combos with him except mana ramp. Take this from a guy who puts demons into any deck that runs black.
The reason this isn't "broken" and merely "good" are: -It doesn't cause the creature to die, which is a coveted trigger (think Flash Hulk decks), Flash does do that -This doesn't cost 2 mana. 4 is quite reasonable for this considering that the best you'll ever get is a Wrath effect, but that costs 4 mana anyway. (Note: Sunblast Angel makes an excellent combo with this) -This opens you up for easy two-for-ones. While it has potential to be card neutral, if the opponent has removal ready or his own combat trick you may just spend two cards to have the opponent spend one and save his creature anyway. -This can't be used offensively. At all. Even with Haste. Sad times :( :( :(

Could attack with the creature if you have a global haste effect, right?

Sunblast Angel is white and wouldn't work with this. This does work well with Æther Charge or Pandemonium, though.
Also, forgot to add...I used to find this art really strange, it appeared almost static, but now I realize it's because this lion is supposed to be completely silent as it drops out of the air by surprise. Bradley Williams did some cool animal cards. (See Blood Hound).

Most unexpected.

This card + Venser, the Sojourner or Otherworldly Journey means fun shtauff.....
P.S. You have to cast Reiver Demon from your hand to nuke
+Soul's Fire
That was easy.
That would be scary!
But what does that have to do with this card?
