Shouldn't it be cutting its own head off? And vomiting on whatever it was aiming at?

Here you go:
"Art shows an angled shot of a armored human swordsman in the middle of hurling half a zombie across the room at an unseen target using only one arm (perhaps glowing red with magical strength), a bellow on his face and the other half of the zombie slumping down next to his lowered sword hand."

Not only is the art bad the flavor just seems wrong in a gothic horror themed set.

Actually, after playing DMC this doesn't seem that unreal.

It's making light of the fact that you can throw yourself into battle with reckless ferocity and lack of self preservation. If you cant tell that from the flavor text, the artwork, and the cardname all working in tandem you should feel ashamed of yourself.
Nice card, great set. Works in tandem with undying to boost your creatures.

Though that is still terribly silly, I would 100% be all over that. That's awesome in a dumb way. This fling is just dumb in a dumb way.

I prefer this art over the m12 one, but this one certainly have its own way of being an eyeblight.
Not like I don't like it or anything.

VERY unexpected reprint in my opinion, not entirely out of place considering Undying, just came out of the blue for me though.

Finally, some new art. Gruesome too.

At least the art is more in your face. As it should be if you flung the card up closer to your eyes.

FlingFlayer of the Hatebound, slap him with Hunger of the Howlpack before his EtB trigger resolves. Fling works really nicely with undying and morbid triggers, seriously, guys. Undying makes this into a valid removal spell in it's own right.

I love the updated art for this (even if it makes little sense), but I don't understand why this was printed for the core set AND this block..

I'm glad Fling finally got new art, but don't you think that it woulda been a little more stylish to show Hanweir Watchkeep loading up a human into a catapult or something? It would fit the theme of "Humans are getting desperate" after all. Goblin Artillery fits the de***ion better than this.
My personal favorite art for fling would definitely be the DCI-promo version.

I'll echo that it's weird since technically fling kills YOUR creature to deal damage, I figure the idea of hitting an enemy with the recently severed head of another enemy was too good of a visual to pass up though.

I know they don't belong in the same deck, but Fling makes an unexpected little combo with Righteousness.
Opp: Release the Kraken! Lorthos attacks! You: 'Kay, then I make my Bloodcraze Goblin a 9/9, block your squid... and then I'mma throw nine damage in your face.
40+ rounds into 5 player casual vintage free for all, I Fling a 54/54 Ageless Entity at a W/R burn deck which in turn got Radiate'd killing everyone and everything but me at 7 life.
Fling is absolutely amazing.

I was wondering the same thing. It gets reprinted twice less than year apart. Still a pretty cool card.
Anyone else think it should have been "The sacrificed creature deals damage..." instead of "Fling deals damage..."? Seriously, you're throwing a dude, doesn't the dude do the damage?
This way, you could Fling a deathtoucher and instakill anything. Or Fling a lifelinker to gain life.
...Or did WotC just explicitly not want that?

So, I have a question and after about an hour of Googling, I can't answer it, so I'm gonna ask it here.
I'm thinking about some sort of Gruul aggro-midrangy thing. I wanna use Ruric Thar, the Unbowed but I've run into a little issue with how casting works. If Ruric is on the field, and I use Fling, sacking Ruric, do I still take the 6 damage Ruric does to me for casting the noncreature spell, Fling? Basically, I'm asking if, in technical, tournament Magic (FNM is as serious as I've ever gotten), are costs paid before or after a spell is declared as cast (and related effects are performed)? If they are paid before, I would imagine I could Fling Ruric in for an additional 6 damage without taking any myself, basically as a sack outlet (opponent takes 6 from casting their spell since it goes on the stack before I Fling Ruric in response) for some Supreme Verdict nonsense or something. Thanks in advance.
P.S. I found something in the rules in 601.2a-h but I can't make much sense of it. It seems that Ruric wouldn't damage me for my spell but I can't be for certain if I'm interpreting the rules correctly.

I'm running this in my Gruul Aggro right now. Great when my bloodrushed creatures get hate. I Fling them, get the damage through, and they've wasted removal. Been pretty good so far. Wish I'd discovered this sooner.

They need to reprint this every core set ever. The combos are just too beautiful.
