They should make a newer version of this card that's 3 mana instead of 5...At 5 it's pretty useless as you'd only want to play this in a deck with few lands and you may never get the mana to cast it. At 3 mana, it would be MUCH more playable in such decks with limited mana base.
What a terriffic find. EDH mana denial FTW. How does everyone like subsiding on an average 2 mana per turn from all land sources? For the rest of the game as long as this is out. Combo with anything. Burgeoning is my favorite.
The ruling on Lairs is that you can tap them for mana before you return a land or sacrifice it. With Storm Cauldron out, you drop the Lair, it's ETB effect goes on the stack, you tap it for mana, Storm Cauldron's triggered ability goes on the stack in front of and resolves before the ETB effect, the Lair is safely in your hand.
Both the Lairs and this work great with Landfall anyway.

STORM C... Wrong card.

Honestly, you don't even need a crazy combo to make use of this. Just use it to prevent your opponents from casting big spells. The combos are just icing.

I use it in my Borborygmos Enraged Commander Deck. When you cast him with 7 or 8 lands in play, it's almost like a free boardwipe, not to mention how annoying it is for everyone else trying to cast their bombs.
Patron of the Moon + Amulet of Vigor = Infinite Mana. Then you just run some casting cost X spells like Blue Sun's Zenith and kill people. Not as neat or efficient as, say, Palinchron and Phantasmal Image, but it's still pretty cool.

This card makes it very difficult for a high tide deck to win. However because it costs 5 it is difficult to get it into play before they combo off.

Winning should hopefully come immediately thereafter.
