Slow, but playable as a monetarily cheap mana fixing land.

Draws comparison to Crumbling Necropolis ultimately the both cause you to not have a land for a turn. The difference being that this lets you have the color you might need immediately while Crumbling Necropolis makes you wait a turn. Also, if it's REALLY necessary you can actually play this, tap it for mana, then choose not to return the other land to your hand.

You still get the mana, but this land gets sacrificed. Options, even bad options, are always good.

If you want to play something on your turn, you can actually tap the land you're going to return for mana and then play this. With that mana still floating, your mana is as good as if you'd played a normal land, even better than if you've played a tapped land.

However, the turn after, and every subsequent turn, you'll be one land behind - that's where the slowdown comes in.

Not that it matters, but usually when we want to indicate possession with words or names that end in "s" in the English language we simply add an apostrophe without the additional "s," as in Gods' Eye, Gate to the Reikai or All Suns' Dawn. Just sayin'...

Landfall and lands with comes-into-play effects combo with all the Lairs, and they are additional mana fixers in EDH.

@agent1103: this card's name is correct English. The examples you cited (Gods', Suns') are plural words. For a singular noun ending in 's' either form is acceptable.

You can use the lairs with for example Gemstone Mine. Play the mine on turn 1 and use it, use it on turn 2 and play a lair returning it to hand so that on turn 3 you can play the mines with three new counters. Just remember not to remove the last counter from the mines because you cannot sacrifice it to the lair if you must sacrifice it to it's own effect.

Tri-color land that doesn't come in tapped? Even with the downside, that's a pretty sweet deal. And as we all know, downsides are made to be turned into upsides. Bounce that Halimar Depths to do some cart sorting, or bounce that Gemstone Mine to replenish it's counters... There are a lot of lands that'd benefit from the bounce. Use your imagination.

Anyway, this is my favorite of the cycle too. Grixis for the win.

I don't think the lairs are bad if you don't have access to a certain color of mana.
