The Lairs are actually great and affordable ways to fix your mana bases. The thing I love with these is that it allows you to float the land that you will bounce and use the Lair.

You can tap it for mana before having to decide whether you bounce a non-lair or sacrifice it; they don't want you tapping it for mana and bouncing itself.
