Ok, with Fear that made sense. Only black things and stoic artifacts can face the horror of a feared creature. But intimidate doesn't work on the same flavor level. Put this on a white creature and only other white creatures can bear to look at it? I think all black creatures could stomach looking at the deformity better than a wimpy white or blue dude.

Gruesome indeed, contender for the worst card of the set. Art and flavour is neat, though. It depicts vile *** who got what she deserved.

It's odd that the obligatory "1 mana Aura that grants evergreen keyword" has a less than straightforward title. It works in Innistrad but will it play in M13? Eh, probably good enough.

Other white creatures can recognize the white creature behind the deformity, everyone else just sees a hideous monster.

"Other white creatures can recognize the white creature behind the deformity, everyone else just sees a hideous monster."

Why would zombies give a crap about a mutated human?

Tommy9898 is right, the flavour doesn't really work here.

Come on, it's not that bad. You're getting a half-unblockable for 1.

It's a cheap Fear for any color... Flavor wise, it doesn't make much sense, but I've seen worse....
Could work well in a vampire deck or ebrus, the binding blade... Definitely not bad for 1 mana.

This card is NOT that bad . Think of it as a black sideboard card . It TERRORISES green (which doesnt go much for artifact creatures but it can destroy it ....sometimes ) ,its pretty good against white AND blue (well exept creatures ) . This card would have worked in HALF of the games I played in FNM last night and it would have MESSED PEOPLE UP in an infect deck .
You basically wait untill you know your opponent is not using black or artifact centered decks and you got a big nasty ,vampire who gets his +1s EVERYTURN! Or some nasty Infect mothar .

your argument about "why would a zombie be afraid" is wrong because a zombie wouldn't be afraid of a deformity, a zombie is black. if this card were white, for example, and called "righteous aura" then the zombie is intimidated by the holy presence of the creature the card enchants. a white creature would not be intimidated because they're white and equally righteous, just like a black demon wouldn't be intimidated by this on a black creature because he's already seen horrible things. were this played on a green creature, say, the demon would be intimated because he's never seen what could be an infection, a poisonous wound, a mutagenic growth, whatever.

the flavor is what you make of it. if you want your zombies to be mildly intelligent undead, this on a blue creature would scare them because they don't know what the hell that blue creature is or did to get that way. if you want to have your zombies be mindless husks then the flavor is "some remnant experiences instinctual terror" or you can even go beyond that to say "the zombies see the deformed creature and think it's one of their own and so don't stop it as it goes past." you can make up whatever flavor you want for just about any and every card interaction, don't dismiss something because it's not immediately obvious or does not work in one particular situation.

It's actually pretty nice. You are essentially providing a limited unblockable to ANY creature of your choice. It could be played on an infect for a quick win, a vampire that buffs up each attack, or it could even be thrown on any of the eldrazi.

I agree the flavor is weird, but they wanted to give other colors the chance of having fear. Illogical, yes, but mechanically legitimate.

This completes the 1-mana "Enchanted creature has keyword" cycle (I'm not counting landwalk).
That took a long time!

White Vigilance: Vigilance (or Lifelink: Lifelink, or First strike: Lance)
Blue Flying: Flight (or Shroud: Robe of Mirrors)
Black Intimidate: Gruesome Deformity
Red First strike: Reflexes (or . . . Vigilance: Eternal Warrior?)
Green Trample: Primal Frenzy

Incredibly, there is still no Black or Green "Enchanted creature has deathtouch" aura. Gift of the Deity is as close as it comes, and that costs 5 and doesn't work on Prodigal Pyromancer! This despite the existence of Basilisk Collar, Gorgon Flail, and Quietus Spike.
