Easier than you think turn 3, much harder later on.

Horrible. For 1 more mana, you can get Diabloic Tutor. This might be OK in the early game, but as soon as your opponent can afford to ealve 2 lands open, this becomes useless.

I have used this card extensively in the past, before Diabolic Tutor was released, and it did just fine then, but Infernal Tutor and Diabolic are generally better. Though, sometimes, waiting for that one moment for your opponent to tap all but one land or tap out entirely so you can play this and pull your game changer/win condition, has always made for some epic games. 3/5

This is one of those "Back in tha day," cards that many of us look back on fondly but as with many of the older cards today's game environment makes it hard to appreciate it as we once did.

I can imagine this being sick back in the day when cards were less powerful. If it cost BB and was instant then it would be SICK but overpowered.

Opening draw in my casual, non-Standard (but perfectly Vintage-legal) B/U deck last night: this, two swamps, island, two Dark Rituals, Hypnotic Specter and Lotus Petal.

Turn 1: Swamp, Ritual, Rhystic Tutor. Hello, Liliana Vess. Make yourself at home in my hand, miss.
Turn 2: Swamp, Lotus Petal, sack it, out comes the Specter.
Turn 3: Island, then Ritual for Ms. Vess. Specter swings. Two discard with Lili's +1 ability, or settle for one discard from Specter and I can -2 and tutor for Necropotence. Later, counters, bounces and black creature removal for anything that threatens Liliana as I build her up with discards and proliferate, then I win with opponent's dead creatures a few turns later.

This is perhaps the best of the rhystic spells.

Pretty good on first turn with a dark ritual.

Dark Ritual was in the same set.

You play this before turn five or so and not many guys with competitive decks are going to have mana open, unless they were going to counter it anyways.

Surely the best rhystic spell after Rhystic Study. With Dark Ritual in Mercadian Masques this was playable on turn ONE, so it was basically almost a Demonic Tutor. Of course this is much worse in the Legacy and Vintage environment, but I like it anyway.

Pretty darn good in EDH, works especially well if your opponents are tapped out, it's even better when used in conjunction with cards that punish players for tapping during your turn, things like Price of Glory come to mind.

In the early game, your opponent is not likely going to have 2 mana. Unless your playing against draw-go.

@John-Bender you do understand that Demonic Tutor is one of the most broken cards ever, right? That's like saying Thoughtcast is terrible because Ancestral Recall exists.

@Fanaticmogg There is a huge difference between 3 mana and 4. In order to get that one more mana, unless you're running Bubbling Muck or Dark Ritual or whatever, you're going to wait an entire turn. An entire turn is massive, especially when using tutors to fetch combo pieces. Hell, Time Walk is one of the P9, right?
