Awww, the nasty Lumberknot is now in bloom and trying to help! This is adorable. :3
Obviously pointless outside of a soulbond-heavy deck.

This set's Training Drone.
A little more difficult to work with. Expect to see it very late in the pack, 13-15th pick. People will take the basic land over it sometimes. But when you make the "soulbond deck" it has a chance of working out.

I just love it when Wizards makes parasitic cards that only work with the mechanics from one set, instead of wording them to be more universal.

Nothing says "creative deck-building" like "I only work with soulbond creatures and suck otherwise."

The good thing about this: Decent body for decent mana.
Bad thing about this: You MUST have another creature that can Soulbound for this to do anything, unless you plan to Fling this.

This may have seen play at 2G, but at 3G for a vanilla 5/5 that will have a very hard time being of any use, the cost is just too steep. Honestly, I wouldn't even pick it in Limited--it is just way too conditional. It goes without saying though, that the artwork/premise of the artwork is entertaining.

This is one of those cards that's one day going to severly confuse a new player while he looks through the trash pile of his friends' card collection.

Drawback aside, this guy is actually not bad for his cmc. Especially considering that it isn't colour heavy, which is important considering soulbond exists in different colours. If he was part of a casual deck that relied almost exclusively on soulbond it would feel like his drawback didn't exist. That makes it useful in extremely specific situations, and sort of fun in my opinion. I also enjoy the art and flavour.

Interesting. It's part of a fairly-well supported tribe, yet is totally useless in it.

anyone who says this card fails has not played it. i pulled two at the pre-release, and the only game i lost was the one i didn't pull it. turn four 5/5 with whatever bonus you add from soulbond.

I think it should have been a 4/4 that can still block regardless.

At first glance I rejected him. "Why couldn't he have defender and lose that when paired? Why cannot it be just paired - in case a set down the road lets one pair with a different ability?" But I drafted him all the same and I found it remarkably easy to get him bonded.

If you're just going to say something like,

"Might work in a soulbond deck"

Just don't comment at all, Jesus...

It's big, it's heavy, it's wood,
It's better than bad, it's good!

I recently played a draft with The Log and a bunch of crappy soulbonders like Galvanic Alchemist and Diregraf Escort and won a few games. I mostly got my butt kicked, but that was due to my low skill level, not to any inherent suckitude of The Log.

Only works with cards in its own set. Hate cards like this.

At least things like infect work throughout an entire block (and that's ignoring the occasional thing like Snake Cult Initiation), and you can make a really good infect deck with 8 or fewer infect creatures. This is just a splashable Leatherback Baloth equivalent that makes you terrified of your opponent's Murders.

creedfox is right, this card is loads of fun and seriously, Soulbond isn't exactly hard to come by. A 5/5 for 3{G}+ soulbond bonus is nothing to laugh at.

Should have been something like 2Green or 1Green or still be able to block.

Wow! look at all the comments saying how bad this is or how it could have been better!
Okay, it's not a fantastic card, but let's just look at the possibilities real quick.

In color we have nightshade peddler giving deathtouch, pathbreaker wurm giving trample, geist trappers giving reach, and wolfir silverheart making it Huge(-er).

And if your willing to splash colors you're open to things like lightning mauler, nearheath pilgrim, and silverblade paladin.

So it's certainly not the best card to come out of the innistrad block, but it's by no means terrible, and by no means unusable.

thank you all for reading this.

way to improve this card but not too much: give it haste.

I never played this, not even in draft with soulbond creatures
