Here we have a card that is absolutely worthless in non-Commander casual, but indisputably flawless in Commander. This is simply the best mana-producing land you could want, and I'm glad they made it common because every Commander deck wants one.

I really hope they reprint this outside of the commander sets somehow. Otherwise, this is going to be as expensive as those other "EDH Staples" Lightning Greaves and Sol Ring.

"I'm glad they made it common because every Commander deck wants one."
It is just as 'common' as any other non-basic land card from the precons. But because this card will automatically go in any multicolor EDH deck, it's going to be one expensive common.

I just wish they had given it the ability to tap for as well, so when I shuffle up an EDH deck to play against a 60-card casual, it wouldn't be so awkward to draw this.

This card is amazing. Taps for any color your deck could possibly need. In 5-coler decks, it basically reads "{T}: add one mana of any color to your mana pool" with no drawbacks! Arguably the best land ever printed for EDH when it comes to mana fixing.

You realize that the only difference between this common and the mythic commanders (valuewise) is that this should sell for way more. They printed just as many of them, and they go in every commander deck.

so. . . basically mana of any color (only playable in edh)? If any effect adds a color of mana that your general does not have it is colorless instead. And all cards in your deck have to be those colors.

There needs to be a "Deckbuilder's Toolkit: Commander Edition" which has four of these, a smattering of utility myrs, decent two and three color creatures, cycling lands, common fetchlands, and three random boosters from different either standard or extended-legal expansions.

I don't like the design philosophy behind this card, since it's a no-brainer. I like having to think about constructing a deck. For this one, it's just "Am I making an EDH deck? Is it multicolored? If so, include this card. Otherwise, don't.". Where's the tough decision in that?
I'd have much preferred if they had made new Lairs for the wedge-colored dragons, following the same model as they used for Rith's Grove and the like. Those are useful, but they're not an auto-include in every deck that can possibly use them, and they could also have been used in non-EDH play.

This is, I believe, the best mana-producer in the game, possibly. Easily the highest rated card that's COMPLETELY UNPLAYABLE in any tournament format. EDH is truly magical. This card. THIS CARD. Sells me. I want to play EDH now. give me 98 stupid random cards, a dorky general that everyone says sucks, and this card, and the first time I draw it and slap it down on the table, I will cry: "VICTORY! I have Golden Mana!!! Painless!!! Untapped!!!! FOR LESS THAN $100.00!!!!!!! This Game is Amazing!!!"
and then you can go ahead and kill me with Uril, or Zur, or some other borken dude. who gives a flying about them.
EVERYONE who has played Magic has died to mana screwage. This does to Mana Screw what Force of Will does to everything else: N.O.
Command Tower is not 'auto include in every Commander deck',
Command Tower is 'auto include in every collection, right after you add the 5 basic land types.'
I like this card. I like it a lot. :)

This card is awsome in EDH for many reasons already listed, but whats funny is it's legal in legacy, vintage, and all the other nameless formats, with absolutly no use for it at all, it almost makes me want to put one in my legacy deck just for the strange looks my opponet will give me. all that asside deffenently 5/5 for me.

@scumbling1: well, as it's in every Commander deck, it's five times as common as, say, precon Skullclamp (or any other card in only one of the decks, such as the commanders themselves). But you're right in that the rarity on these cards is really irrelevant.

Metalevolence:
If its just casual then you can get everyone to agree it taps for 1 as a house rule.
However the official standpoint is that if a general with no color identity (like Karn) or in a format with no generals, Command Tower may be included, but cannot tap for mana. Colorless is not a color.
Bowshewicz
★★★★☆ (4.5/5.0)(1 vote)
@Lavrant: I'm pretty sure that if your commander's identity is colorless, you can't use this card to add any mana to your mana pool. You also can't include basic lands in your deck :D
The only generals with a colorless identity are Karn, Kozilek, Ulamog, and Emrakul. Memnarch and Bosh have abilities with colored mana in the activation cost, so they identify as blue and red, respectively.

I love this card. It is a little weird to think of my scarecrows all turning towards the Reaper King in his tower. I picture something like my shell skulkin taking a fireball (with its shell) for its scrapbasket companion. It turns around and yells "we are getting hammered out here! we need help!" The painter's servant whirls and ties a note to my scuttlemutt which dashes through the fray towards the tower. The doors open for it but slowly and ominously. It slips in the crack. Inside me and my reaper king sit watching the battle. As the scuttlemutt enters we turn. The reaper king steps forward and flexes its wicker talons. It's harvest time.

Alright, while I agree that this is an excellent EDH card, it's NOT for every deck, specifically mono-coloured ones. Why? because it's strictly worse than a basic land in those decks. It's harder to search, functions the same way, and doesn't provide and advantage for cards that care about basic lands, like Abolish, High Tide, or Nightmare. Worse still, if it gets stolen by something, it gives them and advantage that it didn't give you.
Of course, in any multicoloured deck it is simply fantastic, since it's untapped and any colour you need.

@TheWrathofShane: Basic lands do have color identity (since, per the comprehensive rules. basic lands have a mana ability which contains a colored mana symbol) so a colorless general cannot use basic lands.

City of Brass w/ no downside? Don't mind if I do. If you are playing a commander deck w/ 2 or more colors you should be playing this because of these two reasons: 1. It's a fixer that can produce every color of mana that you can use the turn it comes into play. In other words, it's literally perfect mana. 2. It's only like $6 on amazon.
I hate this card with a passion. In EDH it's ": Add one mana of any color to your mana pool" with no drawback. In every other format, it's completely useless. This is NOT the way to create a well-designed card.
It should be banned in EDH. Then the formats it was designed to be useless in would be the only ones it's allowed to be used in. That would be the perfect poetic justice.

I don't get why people love this card. I just don't. In any multi-colored EDH deck (that's most of them), this card is almost strictly superior to ANY mana-producing land. In other words, a MUST-PLAY card. If you don't have this card, you're at a disadvantage. Its set symbol indicates 'common', but that's ***; it's only been printed in expensive pre-constructed commander decks. According to BlackBorder's price guide, the cheapest you can get it for right now is $6. That means EITHER YOU SPEND SIX DOLLARS, OR YOU ARE AT A DISADVANTAGE. This is 'pay to win' at its finest. People see it as an improvement to their EDH deck, but all I can see is a penalty if you don't fork over an additional six dollars when building your deck (a cost that has to be paid again for every deck you have at any given time).
The only thing this card lacks is basic land types. Other than that, it's strictly superior to any mana-land. People complain about the mythic rarity, yet they are fine with an expensive land that is simply a more powerful version of any mana-producing land?

I understand the excitement about this card. I really do - Commander is a popular way to play, and this improves almost any Commander deck. Of course, as someone else posted, that can be seen as a problem - at what point does it become pay-to-win? Maybe not here, but have we started down a slippery slope?
I'm also wary of R&D designing a card (now, with the advent of Commander 2013, there are in fact a bunch more of them) that only works in Commander. You wouldn't effectively mention Legacy by name in a card's rules text, nor Standard nor any other format, and I can't help but wonder if there will be a (metaphorical) price to pay further down the line. See: pay-to-win, market segmentation, price issues, etc.
