Needs new art, otherwise I think it could replace Ponder and Preordain as 'the Core Set Blue SmartyPants Spell'. Strictly better DESIGNED than Ponder and Preordain, because, in fact, this is a perfectly usable spell but it's not necessary to Ban it. Ponder and Preordain are too good. They just are. Black Lotus, in this model, is the strictly worst designed card in Magic, because it's basically just 'this is what the most powerful thing you can do is'
Everyone who's a fan of comic books already knows that Superman is a terribly uninteresting character compared to Batman. You can apply the same reasoning to Magic, and you'll find that the more a card is like Batman or Spider-Man instead of like Superman or Galactus, the better the Design is. And this doesn't have to mean that cards must be weak- we don't need a bunch of crap-tastic Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen's running around 'for balance'. Batman is both fair and powerful. The epitome of fun.
On a side note, why does Gatherer's spell-checker recognize Superman, Batman, Jimmy Olsen, and Spider-Man, but it underlines Galactus in red in the gray box you write your comment in before submitting? :p

I hope this card gets a reprint in M14. It's just ridiculous that one of the fairest filter cards ever designed hasn't seen a mass printing since 2005 (9th Edition). Prior to the introduction of Modern as a format, Sleight of Hand always shared its niche with Brainstorm, Ponder, and Preordain, all of which are superior. Now that the others are unavailable, Sleight of Hand is a Modern staple at over $1.50 apiece, much higher than any non-broken common should ever cost.
