very versatile, but it does need some support to make it very good. not that a 7/4 is a bad defender

SootKojote:
If a creature is dealt enough damage in a single turn to kill it, even from multiple sources, it dies. The damage "wearing off" just means that the damage necessary to kill the creature resets.

Not that bad in a golem deck. At the very least he makes a fantastic blocker.

Works wonders with Inquisitor's Flail.

Fine in Limited if you have the support for him (a fling or two will suffice).

Also works decently with B/G cards from Innistrad for casual play. 5 mana is not hard for green to reach quickly, and then you get a big swing and guaranteed trigger of your Morbid abilities.

Unearth and Fling are some useful tech with a couple of these in your deck.
can you cloudshift or flicker to keep him alive? give him a buddy like Deadeye Navigator

Why is this thing rated so low? After I play Jor Kadeen he's a 10-power with trample. Even without that boost, I find this guy often intimidates my opponents.

This may not be a great card but it is one of the first ones I ever had in a deck (technically it was all out of a friend's one Fat Pack) and he was an all star back in my ultra-n00by days. Ah, good times, good times.

Yep! That works. You can skip your second main phase by using sundial after the declare damage step and he won't want to kill himself anymore.
Even on its own, I think it's a pretty decent creature. It can block forever, and it's a one-time beefy trampler for 5. Not great, but not bad either.
I like him, and I'm sure there are some specific niches that he could fulfill very well.
