WAY too many drawbacks to be Demonic Consultation.Too expensive, and has to sit around for a turn with one toughness before being used, among all it's other problems.

Well that's probably the point. This cards progenitor was extremely broken for combo decks. Being bound to an inerintly fragile permanant that is subject to summoning sickness makes it much more bearable to people on the other side of the table.

Using this more than once is ridiculously dangerous. Using it just once you'd be better off with even Diabolic Tutor in many situations.

This card is amazing! I 7 lines of rules text there are 7 occurency of the word "card" (or "cards")... However, totally useless... Demonic Consultation is probably 100times better, maybe even more...

A friend of mine pointed out that in a reanimator style deck this is tech. Discard fatty, consult for reanimation spell, reanimate fatty, win?

When this card first came out, I collected it until I managed to trade for 4 of them. It fascinated me because it seemed so useless and I really wanted to figure out how to use it effectively. I've had those 4 cards in my binder of rares ever since. I think (with the help of others on these forums) I finally have a decent combo for it. Blue/black suicide deck
Put a Laboratory Lunatic into play. Preferably making it hexproof as well (or having counter magic ready). Use Divining Witch to look for something NOT in your deck. Someone suggested "Black Lotus" to watch the faces of all of your opponents when you say THAT! haha. Then, after you've milled your last card, use some cheap instant, like a Mental Note to make yourself draw a card. Win. Now REALLY enjoy their faces! :)

The combo for this card is pure black actually. Get Necrotic Ooze Sac this guy Discard Void Maw. Get anything or nothing. Have Mortal Combat out. Use combo at end of opponents turn. Use Void Maws ability to put all the cards into your graveyard since the Ooze removed them. Keep an Eldrazi to keep this from going bad so you can shuffle your grave into your deck if you need to.

So, T1 or T2 this guy. T3 Laboratory Maniac. T4 on your upkeep, name a card that isn't in your deck and win.

Thankfully you can use this guy to dig for mana every turn. I foresee a use for him in a retrace/unearth themed deck. Still, he's pretty risky to use no matter what.

Put Divining Witch into play, and make it hexproof with a Mask of Avacyn.

Things got really hot when she started naming cards that weren't even in the library
