This can only be used for defense. Some say otherwise, but the token doesn't have Haste, so it can't attack before it goes bye-bye. That being said, I think I'd rather use an actual 4/4 angel instead....
This is a free removal spell in combat if you have an untapped creature, not bad.

Tap a creature and receive an expendable 4/4 flying blocker during your opponents attack? They won't expect that if your mana hosed. Sounds groovy! Play this offensively with Lightning Greaves.

I think the "if you control a plains" qualifier is slightly redundant.

@JWolps - No? Without it, any mono-colored deck could run it. White could, obviously, but so could any blue, red, black or green deck. If this didn't have that prerequisite: Getting attacked with a flier and you only have a Kraken Hatchling? Tap it for this. Getting attacked in red? Only thing you have untapped is that creature you just summoned that didn't have haste (doubtful), tap it for this. In green? Would just be more flier hate, since they really need it. And black would be able to tap a creature to get a free creature to sacrifice. It's necessary. Just like the "if you control a forest" clause on Brawn (and the respective cards in his cycle) because otherwise you could just discard them in any color and get their benefits.

I would put this in my defender deck, as a disposable block to that Vampire Nighthawk, or general flier hate. Not bad, I like it.

In a color that already has excellent removal? Nooooo!

This is a free blocking Serra Angel at the cost of a tapping a creature. Transforming Suntail Hawk or Mother of Runes into a 4/4 flying angel is a good thing.

@mrredhatter Since it says "play only during combat" lightning greaves is not the optimal haste granter for this token. Leonin Shikari can solve that problem. Fires of Yavimaya is amazing all the time.

BAMPfing a blocker into play is pretty cool instant-speed shenanigans, but at what cost?
...tap a creature? Seriously?
You have to admit, this is the cheapest alternative casting cost the world of Magic has ever seen.
"Yeah, your medium-sized flyer is dead. As are some of your other creatures. While mine are all still alive. Oh, and that Angel? It's staying."

Sweet card mechanic flavor. I like to think the weak p/t creature tapping is bowing and praying. Angel comes down for above, divine intervention/favor, and then it's gone; prayer answered.

All of these white cards with the "tap-a-creature" alternate cost were great in Masques block. On your opponent's turn, you could search out a rebel during combat, then tap it for an alternate cost for no extra mana.
