Attacks from white are always just a flesh wound. Still a classic.

A 2/2 first strike that cant be pathed or oblivion ringed?
Sign me up for some of that action.

2/2 is kind of too weak for a first strike ability. Hand of Cruelty is a little bit better.

This guy shrugs off all targeted white removal and things like Doom Blade. Aside from a few black spells or red removal, he is positioned very well as a 2 drop that will cause a lot of players more than a little bit of trouble.

Haha Knight Exemplar for teh win.
This becomes almost completely unanswerable with a Knight Exemplar out.
Oh, how I wish I had these and Knight Exemplar.

Isn't this reminder text for protection slightly wrong? It CAN be dealt damage by white sources, it's just that the damage is normally prevented. Important distinction with things like Unstable Footing.

Good memories. I used to play mono black with 3 of these and my brother used to play a mono white deck with 3 White Knights. Our games were pretty much races to get our respective knights. Of course I had Diabolic Tutor, lol.

Rule 604.1. Static abilities do something all the time rather than being activated or triggered. They are written as statements, and they're simply true.

I believe that the reminder text is right, but I'll try it out on MTGO and see what happens just for you. Play Unstable Footing, attack with random white creature, have my GF block with Black Knight and see if the Knight takes combat damage. I'll edit this when I find out. Although if someone else tests it before I wouldn't mind that either.

If you are looking for another good 2 drop in black that does not get zaped by white spells also consider stromgald crusader. Both are knights if your intrested in knight tribal.

Although cooler than vampire hexmage, black knight will see no standard play as long as the planeswalker killer is legal.

On constructed: If you're okay with running upwards of four two-drops, this card can easily fit into a mono-black deck, mainly because of its ability to evade Wall of Omens. But if we consider Mirrodin with its +1/+1 counters and all, and Scars' imminent release, I think that the already highly preferred Hexmage is simply going to win out.
On limited: I tend to feel disinclined to take Black Knight early unless I know that I'm going heavy black, but I shouldn't. Even when the knight doesn't land on turn two, it's still going to tie up the ground, and when it does land on time (especially in black aggro), your opponent is going to be in a world of hurt. Sometimes when you're facing white it even ends up winning games all on its lonesome. When you're going black, this is a pretty high pick; but when you see it early in pack one, don't read too heavily into it. Your opponents are probably waiting, thinking that they can't afford to take a CC two-drop early.

This card has become scary good due to the fact that it can dash past walls of omens unopposed.

The funny thing about those 2 black-white guys is that they are supposed to be deadly ennemies, but the color protection they have make it they can neevr fight each other by default!

Very good card though, and a true cla ssic!

I wouldn't trust MTGO; it's not always following the rules strictly. For example, there are a lot of mistakes in gameplay concerning the stack, for example. your best bet is to ask a judge or something

This guy's art is far superior to his chump of a nemesis, White Knight.

Also, it always gets me how matter-of-fact his name his. He's black. He's a knight. At least he isn't called "Black Human Knight" (although in the early days that's essentially what he was).

Sturm, it actually can be Oblivion Ringed, because OR doesn't target--its exile effect is technically independent from the card, thus this guy's protection from white is irrelevant. Path to Exile does target, so Black Knight is protected.

@Ferlord- i was confused on this to. i wondered why day of judgment would destroy the black night, but a pyroclasm wouldnt destroy a kor firewalker.

Protection means the creature cant be 1.) blocked 2.) dealt damage 3.) enchanted 4.) targeted 5.) equipped by whatever its protected from. However, day of judgment doesnt do any of these, so the black knight is destroyed.

A pyroclasm wouldnt destroy a kor firewalker because it deals damage, and damage is prevented.

I used to play a black-white knights deck with multiples of this, White Knight, and Riftmarked Knight (for the suspend). It was like a lovely, happy family of black and white knights with protection from each other. Amusing.

@ Joseph_Leito : No, it cant be o-ringed; O-rings effect is an activated ability of the card, and O-ring itself is white b/c of its casting cost, ergo Black Knight cannot be the target of O-ring's effect

Oblivion ring reads:

"When Oblivion Ring enters the battlefield, exile another target nonland permanent."

Target. Therefore it cannot work on this card as it cannot target it.

There aren't anywhere NEAR enough Monty Python references in the comments text. MTG players, I am disappoint.

My friend bragged about this G/W infect deck he made one day. He had used a lot of time and thought on making it and was very ready to whoop my ass. I had this and Vampire Hexmage kill all his troops (except for that one green one that has to be sacced after combat which I let through) and him without much effort, and my friend got so angry that he didn't say a word after three games. I left his house while doing everything in my power not to laugh, not because he lost but because he got so mad.
