This card is VERY solid. Great on the curve, flexible with its targets (including allies in mp who need cards badly)

I LOVE letting new players borrow my Black deck.
them: "I play Sign in Blood, targeting YOU!!! So take 2 damage!" me: "..."

@infernox10 that is not a good idea.

Great draw. It fares better than a lot of blue draw in Standard right now, in my opinion, so long as you're in all black. It's fun watching newer players learn that chances are the two cards you get are going to more than make up for the two life you lost.

Reprint of Night's Whisper with some vampire flavor? I like it!

I think I want to instantly replace my M10 playset of these just to get the cooler and better new flavor text on this version. It reminds me of the various texts that come from Phyrexian Arena.

@MrBarrelRoll The funny thing is when you actually win a game by doing that. You come just 1 or 2 life away from killing your opponent and they get all smug because they don't think you have any direct damage/life loss in your deck, then you bust out Sign in Blood on *them*. It's part of the reason I like this card so much. 90% of the time you'll be using it on yourself for card advantage, but its dual use as a quick 2 damage to a player of your choice is definitely an awesome thing to have available.

You're absolutly right, this does fare better if you're playing all black then blue draw spells do.
Careful how you word things. But I get what you mean and I agree.
@Tovaras
This isn't a reprint of Night's Whisper, it's an improved varient. Thia allows you to target your opponent. And it's common.
@CAustin582
He meant that the newer players will usually use it on him thinking that it's meant as a damage spell primarily and not a draw spell.

Underworld Dreams, Megrim, and Mind Rot. Not a necessary supplement, but still a fun offensive use of the card nonetheless.
very good with the scrying abilities common in blue and the crystall ball

Still a great card, although I really prefer the M10 flavor text.

Pretty much a 4-of for mono black. This is a cheaper divination, and the life loss is almost entirely negligible since black has a lot of strong options to gain that life back: Vampire Nighthawk, Corrupt, Sorin Markov, Consuming vapors
Cheap card advantage is good.

Eved this is not a improvement of Night's Whisper it can be redirected and how often will you want target your appoint with it.

Hitting yourself with this is the usual course for a black deck. However, I much prefer hitting my opponent. I understand the strategic purposes of using on yourself, but with cards like Quest for the Nihil Stone, Liliana's Caress, and the sheer number of 1-drop discards, this allows you to load your enemy's hand, knock them back down two, and they lose a total of 6 life (assuming Liliana's Caress). If they're empty-handed, they also lose 5 at the beginning of their turn, meaning they just got docked 11 points in one round, for a total cost of 4 black mana, assuming Quest on 1st turn and Liliana's Caress on 2nd.

good card, a very small Necropotence, since you basicly get a card for a life, also promise of power's little cousin, it is a good card, and i wanna see AD NAUSEUM reprinted in next core set, since we will probly never see necropotence again (playable) join the cause ! and play 4 of this in a mono black deck.

@ Don_Miguel or anyone who knows the answer. You said: Infernox10 that is not a good idea after Infernox10 said: Type your comment here. I want to know, was that just a casual comment to be taken literally/at face value? Or did you mean it like, it's a really BAD idea & if so, why?
I actually use this card to cause my opponent to draw, since I often find they run out of cards to discard XDD

So very, very black
Loss of life is nothing in the pursuit of absolute power
CMC 2 to draw 2 is very efficient, and can be used on both ends to great effect.

Me: "Sign In Blood to myself, I draw two, lose two life. Pass turn." Opponent(s): "Hm, OK" (next turn) Me: "Sign In Blood to myself, I draw two, lose two life. I'm at 16 now. Pass turn." Opponent(s): (no words, just a slightly confounded look on their faces" (next turn) Me: "Trespassing Souleater. Pass turn." Opponent(s): "...." (a couple turns later) Me: "Soul Conduit. Pass turn." Opponent(s): Oh, so that's your trick. (next turn, if they haven't destroyed my stuff) Me: "OK, I'm going to pay 14 life to make Trespassing Souleater unblockable seven times. Then, pay six....Now you have 2 life and I'm at 20. Swinging now with Trespassing Souleater. gg buddy :)
This is a perfect card for a core set. New players will see "target player" and "loses 2 life" and immediately think it is meant to be used on the opponent. It's a perfect opportunity to teach new players that card advantage>life total unless the opponent is at 2 or less life.
