Mogg Fanatic... is that you? You fell down that cliff all the way into Zendikar, and now you're wearing some strange hedron hat?

This is a great one-drop for mono-gobbie. I can block, deal one, let it die, and kill a two-toughness attacker or defender. or anything with first strike that has one toughness.

Think o it this way, mogg fanatic freaks, now you can have 8 in your goblin deck. I wish I had more good goblins, I would make a deck, but I dont. I have most stuff from alara block forward and some from ravnica, and shadowmoor block. There's not toooo many great gobb's since then.

Mudbutton Torchrunner's little brother. Use accordingly. For those of you saying this is worse than Mogg Fanatic, you are both right and wrong. From a mechanics point of view, yes, this card is worse because you can't sacrifice at any time. From a strategy standpoint, this ends up being a better card. When compared, your opponent will be more likely to take out a Mogg Fanatic than Goblin Arsonist if possible to deprive you of that sacrifice option later in the game. Goblin Arsonist, however, only deals the extra 1 damage when killed. If your opponent doesn't want that to happen, he just won't block the weakling. This is a difference that only really matters early in the game, as Mogg Fanatic is more useful in mid to late game. I would also say that Goblin Arsonist's art alone make him a better card, as I hated the art style of all the Mogg cards.

Not a bad target for Goblin Grenade, if I do say so.

No, Wizards. This isn't fixing the Fanatic problem.

This card should be rated way higher. Goblins finally get another awesome one drop. "Here's Mogg Fanatic... Opps we broke it... have this instead..."

Slightly worse than Mogg Fanatic (pre-M10 rules) since you can't sac at anytime. Think of it as a strictly better Festering Goblin AND RED!!!

I'll take four plzkthx.

EDIT:

Post-M10 Rules Scenario for all the nay-sayers... attack with Goblin Arsonist for 1... sac with SGC for another 2... and 1 more when he hits the GY...

... 4 damage to a maximum of three different sources INCLUDING players, not just creatures.

Yeah... great card.

SECOND EDIT:

After sets of 10 playtests versus some of the best decks from current standard, extended, and even legacy (for a total of 80 tests with such decks as Affinity, Thopter-Depths, Jund, Zoo, even Faeries, etc) I would have to say that this card in no way, and never will, be able to replace Mr. Fantastic. It simply cannot fulfill the role of Mogg Fanatic despite its increase in "combo-ability." Auto-sacs for birds and other mana ramping hardware (Bob fears Fanatic mofo, I'm telling yah) is PRIMARILY what Mogg is for and he still reigns supreme. As I posted earlier... Goblin Arsonist has potential for 4 damage distributed between three targets but this is situational and largely out of the Goblin pilot's control. Any deck that can, still "should" (read: WILL) run Mogg Fanatic as another one drop. Lets face it... by the time you get Siege-Gang Commander onto the field your opponent will either be scooping immediately, or VERY shortly if they don't have an answer regardless of whether this guy will be on the field. Take it from me, or do your own damn playtesting, but I am now wholly convinced that the "broken" Mogg Fanatic is still much more useful in "any" (read: ALL) solid goblin decks.

This guy IS a bomb for Pauper Goblins though! :D

Chances are u will get in about 2 free hits of them not wanting to waster their early game creatures with low toughness but drawing this late game is a dead draw sure mogg is amazing this is just ok .

totally awesome :)

Turn 1: Mountain, Goblin Arsonist
Turn 2: Mountain, Quest for Pure Flame&Goblin Arsonist, Punch for counter 1
Turn 3: Mountain, Tuktuk, Punch with both arsonists for counter 3
Turn 4: Mountain, Arsonist, Shortcutter, Bolt/Shock
Turn 5: Mountain, Pop Quest for Pure Flame, Voracious Dragon (Nom 3 arsonists, tuktuk, shortcutter) 20 damage, a 5/5 tuktuk the returned, 6 more damage from arsonists effect, and a 9/9 voracious.

oh, the fun of tuktuk and these dudes with a mix of voracious!

Is it as good as Fanatic pre-M10? NO
Is it better than Fanatic post-M10? Maybe

siege-gang commander turns this into an incinerate, let's see mogg fanatic top that.

If you have something to sac him to, he might even be more handy than the good ol' Mogg Fanatic.
And he's most of the time better than Festering Goblin.

Oh, and he has an awesome flavor text as well - Goblins do not know about such a thing as responsibility, therefore Stan Lee's famous quote from Spiderman had to get changed to something more suited :D

a very interesting card in the fact that yes, it's not mog fanatic, but he is the other half of the ability that mog fanatic enjoyed so much.

the current mog fanatic cannot 2 for 1 by running into a x/1 and killing another x/1.

arsonist cannot pop himself in order to stop the buffing of an x/1

So... both of these cards are, by this effect, equal, rather than better than the other. Now, if you want to get technical, you COULD add up with of these 2 effects are more prevalent in the current formats available, but for now...

wish on some dragon balls for goten and trunks to teach the 2 goblin buddies how to fusion dance to get our old mog fanatic back :(

Mog Arsonist

R

Creature: Goblin Goblin

1/1

You may sacrifice Mog Arsonist at any time

When Mog Arsonist is put to the graveyard from the battlefield, you may have it deal one damage to target creature or player.

This is nice with Fling and Chandra's Spitfire. Since he creates his own damage effect, both he and Fling trigger Spitfire's growth twice. That's 2 damage, followed by at least 7 in the air.

I can understand why people are comparing this card to Mogg Fanatic . .
but they basically do different things.
Mogg Fanatic is great card that cannot really interact with other cards. It is a brutal fighter that can damage the blocker and kill opponent's 1/1 and can be used for finishing opponents off immediately without other card's help.
This card, however, has more cards to interact with. Even though you cannot sacrifice him with its own ability, you can use cards that can sacrifice it in order to trigger its ability. Think of it as a Perilous Myr's brother.

The art is hilarious. It took me a while before I even saw the guy.

I enjoy the power of this 1-drop, but am dissatisfied with the flexibility. If I need 8 Fanatics, I run frostling over this guy. Still, this is good situationally if you build the deck with support for him. Still, I got my playset because I wanted to weaken my red deck because my friends felt they were seeing the fanatic too often.

The flavor text is awesome, but the card doesn't really make sense. When an arsonist dies to a horrible mistake, how often do you get to target the explosion? Its not like he is setting up an IED next to a soul warden when he chump blocks a 7/7 back at home.

I do put four of these in my goblin deck because of its nice synergy with goblin grenade.

I love how 4 of these guys and three perilous myr make my early game assault/defense as most players tend to avoid doing anything to either of them. Gives me plenty of time to set up my 3 mana liquimetal coating/crush land destruction combo. And a lot of land destruction on turn 3 and 4 can completely ruin anyone's game. I love these Arsonists.

Has anyone else heard rumors of him being carried over into the next core set?

I had 3 of these in a Skirsdag Cultist / Rage thrower sacrifice deck. then i put in 4 kuldotha rebirths, 4 mycosynth wellsprings and replaced the goblins with perilous myr.
