I'm going to run im in limited, becasue if nothing else, he is simple and elegant, and has cool art.

Yeah, I agree, although I would make him cost less

They have gotten a lot better at writing flavor texts since Alara.

Great art and flavor text. I don't know if it's practical mana-wise, but I think this is a good job by design.

Good for a skeleton tribal deck, since most of them are rather puny. For any other constructed deck though it's unplayable.

Why did this card take so long to design??? This is the sauce! It isn't good, exactly, but I promise that I will play it. At least once.

I foresee a core set spot for this one. No objections here, it's as black as night and elegantly setting-neutral

A lil costly but pretty worth it

Costly? Yes. Hard to kill? Most definitely. A bomb in limited? Indeed.

Does this remind anyone else than me of Waning Wurm?
I agree with dgregory - it's nice to have a big black creature at uncommon. Black has generally lacked big finishers without a drawback for a long time now (I'm talking common and uncommon cards here), so it seems plausible that they'd finally get one in a core set now.

I want to like it. The fact that it's a) a nice finisher and b) a regenerator makes me want to like it, but that mana cost.... ouch! 8 mana is no small price to pay. I would probably prefer Ulamog's Crusher for 8 mana.

8 CMC in ROE isn't your father's 8 CMC. There is so much one-off ramp available from spawn, it will be easy to cast this guy on turn 5 or 6 - with regen mana open.

A really neat concept, but there are much better things to cast for 8 mana. So basically, it's a perfectly great creature if you're playing limited or you don't have a ton of cards, but better creatures ARE out there.

I'm confused, Vastwood Gorger loses it's muscle and becomes stronger? Seems sort of contradicting to me.

Oh, hi there Death Baron! We should totally be friends.
This guy is pretty vanilla, but a B regeneration cost is pretty rugged. In older decks you can Dark Ritual this guy in about 10 seconds.

OK for limited, if the cards you pull are forcing you to play black he's worth a slot or two, but not good for any kind of constructed play. 3/5

I'll give this four just because even though its expensive, its a 7/6 that can attack every turn and you don't have to worry about it dying. Persistence; gotta love it.
Why does this get a low rating? Regeneration is absolutely incredible right now, especially for a mere one mana. I consider this one part of the holy trinity of RoE draft fatties, with artisan of kozilek and pelakka wurm being the other two. Also, it's easily splashable.
This was the mvp of my draft tonight. It pulled off some seriously epic stuff and earned a place in my hall of fame. One mana regeneration on something this big is oh so sweet.

On constructed: NO.
On limited: Run it if you're desperate for a finisher, I suppose, but don't pick it early.
Miscellaneous: @ Kanguilla: Good eye! That is really great flavor right there.

Look at the 9E Scaled Wurm. Notice the similarities, even in body position?

Obviously a Scaled Wurm here as mentioned, so it merely keeps its power and is black instead. :) nice catch!

Got 4 of them in my reanimator deck. Who doesn't love a 7 power : Regenerator?

Look! Scaled Wurm learned to regenerage thanks to a long Fasting. That's the power of faith, guys! (Or the power of faith from a necromancer in dark magic, that is.)

I love the flavortext. It makes me want to put this creature in a Reanimator deck, even though it's not an optimal pick :)

Such a huge mana cost. I mean when you finally get 8 mana, do you risk it and cast this bad boy, or do you wait for a few more turns and pray for another land?
Interesting limited filler card, regenerate always has such potential. But for budget constructed I would go with twisted abomination even if I wasnt playing tribal :D

4.5/5 for me, it's rare to see such a low regeneration cost on such a massive beater.
