After all these years, still a solid card in limited. One of the first cards I ever got was a revised Air Elemental back in 1994.

Back in the day this was a great card... right now, he is way under the curve. Very solid in limited, but consider that Serra Sphinx and Djinn of the Wishes cost the same and have extras. Ethersworn Adjudicator is an artifact and Cloudhoof Kirin is a legend, but they both are also better.

Meh. 4/4 flying for 5. Djinn of Wishes is better, albeit harder to get a hold of. I find it to be good in specific situations, but a little too steep in cost.

I'm so glad they're not using the 7th ed flavor text/art on this guy anymore. I cringed everytime I saw it in my cards. I refused to play him during that period of my life. Now he's back, but Djinn of Wishes pretty much makes him obsolete. Sorry dude, you were cool once and we had a lot of fun, but I've got to move on. We're different people now...

It's funny how back in the day, this was a very good card. Today, not so much. And there was a time when we thought that WOTC was watering down the game with the later expansions starting with, I'd say, Fallen Empires. But of late, the cards they're putting out are incredible. Sure, there will never be cards as powerful as the P9, but you can't play them in standard tournaments anyway so what does it matter?
Yeah Air Elemental...you were great at one time but that was a long time ago.

For you modern war technology geeks out this is like a magical B-52 bomber. It's big. It's tough. It flies. And it destroys almost anything it comes in contact with. Use... maybe an Oakenform or a Maniacal Rage.

In m12, his role is filled by Phantasmal Dragon. I prefer the dragon because he kills in 4 turns and comes out a turn sooner. Air elemental is a classic though.
With a real lack of elemental support (Especially in blue) this card is the dreaded 'strictly worse' option for Serra Sphinx these days. Poor cloud man has really seen better days.
The issue here is that for five mana your flier is still not going to compete with whatever Other colors can do. White has Baneslayer Angel, Red has Voracious Dragon, Black has Chimney Imp... I mean Bloodgift Demon! Even green has the Not-technically-worse (But lovably censored) ***atrice. All with pretty much the equivalent mana costs.
Maybe its not fair to compare a bunch of rares to an uncommon, but blue was supposed to be flying king. He might still be, but not because of this guy.
