land destruction is in green about as much as flying is in black.

You mean on small fliers in black? Every black rare creature they print anymore is a rare flying demon.

Too all you people who are surprised at this card: it's more likely than you'd think. Acidic Slime, Mwonvuli Acid-Moss, Creeping Mold....... green is secondary in land destruction (I think. And if so, black is third).

In the beginning, there was Stone Rain, Ice Storm and Sinkhole, and all was good.
Then, Revised came and the Powers that Be decided that Red would be the Land Destruction color, and thus, wiped out of existence the green and black land destruction cards. (Well, not really. somehow Desert Twister got into Revised from Arabian).
But in Ice Age, the Powers that Be became a bit more benevolent towards Land Destruction, and they returned that ability to the former colors, but in a less powerful variant: Thermokarst and Icequake. And all was good again.
And thus, a tradition of black and green land destruction began. Cards like Choking Sands, Rancid Earth, Mwonvuli Acid-Moss, Drain the Well, Winter's Grasp, Rain of Tears, Plow Under, Creeping Mold ...

Considering White has Armageddon, only blue doesn't have a way to get rid of nasty lands. Well, actually they do... Strip Mine,Wasteland,Ghost Quarter, Dust Bowl and so many others... and nasty things like Temporal Eddy or Boomerang.
