Compare the types in the oracle with those on the printed card, it's quite amusing.

Quite true, Mode.

Interesting also how the only hero ever printed was in the Unhinged set.

However, 5/5 for art, flavor and (oracle'd) playability.

Actually, this card wasn't worthless outside of un-. Benalish Hero was a Hero. As was Kjeldoran Warrior. Funny that both of them were the same card (effectively; 1/1 for W with Banding). But to restore this card "to original functionality" without the Hero type, they had to give her this ability.

Everything considered, this card isn't bad in limited or an extremely casual format. Its really nice with cards that make Soldier Tokens like Martial Coup or the newer Zendikar token generator. A Marital Coup for 4 gives her +4/+4...making her a 6/6 for 4 on turn 6...which is quite unimpressive in this day and age where we have cards like Purity.

That's not quite true, AlphaNumerical. There were many heroes a while back (see Benalish Hero) but they standardized the creature types a few years back and got rid of some of the more obscure ones. "Hero" was one of the creature types that was killed off. If you look at an old card, like Benalish Hero, you'll see that "Summon Hero" is printed on the card, but the current oracle text is "Creature- Human Soldier". They had to change this card pretty drastically to accommodate that change.

Since they never change the oracle text on Un- cards, when you searched for "Hero" type those were the only ones that showed up.

The "Grand Creature Type Update" screwed casual play over. Who wants to lug a list of errata'd creature types to a kitchen table game just to prove that your deck works?

Don't forget your Beast Walkers when you make the hero deck.

I need this card to count knights too... why is a knight any less heroic than a soldier or a warrior? If anything, they ought to be more heroic.

So, I hear WOTC doesn't add power level erratta to cards any more (http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtgcom/feature/345) ...oh wait, this card maxed out at a 10/10 when Hero was a creature type, but now it can get stupid huge.

No, Oracle Text, no matter how much you may try you will not trick us into thinking anything from Homelands doesn't suck.

The thing is, with errata, this guy kinda doesn't suck - at least not in the right deck. My brother has this knight/soldier army with Knight Exemplar and Hero of Bladehold. The former would make this a base 3/3 indestructible, and the latter would effectively pump Aysen Crusader just by attacking.
