With even one less CC this would be great, but that 4 up there just kills it.

@Laguz: Um, no. That one extra mana bought it +1/+1 and haste over Looming Shade. Self-pump is a very valuable ability, and in many cases, it means you have to block it, or you will die.

being priced as a common killed it. It's still really good.

Oh my God it another reprint thats being made 'better'. This reprint of Nantuko Shade is great, but with no Cabal Coffers like other than Crypt of Agadeem to help fuel its pump ability this card is substandard right now. It will most likely improve with Zendikar expansions. 2.5 or 3/5

Goes well in a graveyard-feeder deck given Crypt of Agadeem. If you can pull off getting enough creatures in your graveyard, you can use this with the crypt to bomb when they least expect it. But probably too much expenditure for the gain.

This is, in no way, an improvement over the amazingness that is Nantuko Shade. =

PURE BLACK FABULOUS SUPER SPECIAL AWESOME MONO CARD.

This would be seeing so much play if it cost 1BB instead of 2BB. Still not bad though...

I was just wondering if you can keep stacking this creatures ability up to as many swamps as you control.
Basically +X/+X which would be +3/+3 if I had 3 swamps to tap.

The one thing keeping shades from being broken is that none of them have trample and it is nigh-impossible to give them trample in a mono-black deck.

At 1BB this card would be "broken". People play looming shades for 2B as 1/1, this guy would get +1/+1 and haste for a swap of B mana? Nevermind the pump ability.

I love this card in limited its so fun to use

Better than Looming Shade and Hatse and a +1/+1 pump for B for 2BB
is really great.

Possible late game finisher, can make a nice cut to opponent's life

I like it better than Looming Shade, but I would of rather seen flying or fear on this card. Haste seems kinda useless most of the time since you normally have little or no mana to pump him up the turn you play him.

A black card with haste . . . what.

I do not not like black and haste. Never intended to be together.

Works well as a late draw when I got one or more Nirkana Revenants out
Also like the Haste ability on a black creature, I like off-color things like that.

Do not doubt this guy's power. Black hasters are few, this guy is nice. Good at killing jaces, titans, wurmcoils, baneslayers and opponents, it's a poor man's anti-mythic creature.

For everyone that doesn't know, haste is officially black and red, and green in higher rarities. They're just terribly shy about it.

This should definitely have been costed at 4. It's good how it is, it's for limited. I remember hitting for 2 with this, they're like, okay 4 for a 2/2 haste... first strike or whatever, not too bad, then next turn I'm in for 7 and they're all WHOA

@blindthrall - You've gotta remember that not everyone started playing back with Frozen Shade...there are still people picking the game up, even today.

Works really will with Liliana of the Dark Realms.

The haste is there to make it a BRUTAL top-deck for casual circles. Late game, suddenly you're swinging with a 6/6 in addition to the rest of your army. And a 10/10 next turn.

Uhh... I'm assuming lots of people commenting here don't play limited.

In limited, this is one of those spells that are beyond dangerous. For a common, this is unreal. Even a 2/2 with haste in Black isn't useless. It makes for a creature that can be top-decked and made useful almost immediately. Cards that can win you the game single-handedly, depending on the state of the board, are valuable in limited.

The Shade ability is also one of the most trickiest abilities to dodge and play against. In limited, when someone attacks and still has cards in their hand and mana open, they could have anything planned. They could have a Tainted Strike. They could have a Doom Blade. They could have nothing. Unless you play Duress or any other spell that reveals their hand, you won't know.
So when the Shade-owner attacks, you can't determine what you could block with so you end up ahead... or at least, not significantly behind. if you block with something with less power/toughness, you'll lose a creature. If you block with something more valuable, they could pump it so they at least trade. If you let it go through, you could lose lots of health.

In short, no one should be complaining about this card, especially with all of the "for a common this is bad" comments.

Crypt Ghast and Crypt of Agadeem for ultimate Cryptness

Oh, and you'll attack for 6-12 haste on T5 without other acceleration.

Finally, a card that makes Carnival of Souls actually useful...
