What did you first think of this card when you saw it?

I thought, "Wow, so much cooler than Ivy Elemental."

This can be really fun in multiplayer. Really allows people to show their support for your attack on someone.

I love this card. It's great getting your opponent confused when you search for it off of a Ranger of Eos, and then reassuring them that yes, it does count as a one-drop.

To all administrators:

Tell whoever can make a difference that just because a word has a smaller, inappropriate word in it, doesn't mean that part of the word should be censored. For example: reas - suring (I put in a dash in hopes that it won't be censored again). I might be able to understand if the inappropriate word was longer or took up more of the actual word, but this is ridiculous - it's a perfectly normal, usable word. Please edit the settings so that this stops happening.

Definitely fun off of Ranger of Eos, and being a Beast, is great with Contested Cliffs.

bring it in as a 3/3 on turn four or even a 5/5 with mana ramp. Then build it as you go.

Turn 2 Bloom Tender
Turn 3 Freed From the Real on Bloom Tender (infinite green mana), into infinitely big Feral Hydra.
Turn 4 Win, if it doesn't get killed.

Extremely similar to the Helix Pinnacle combo

Heh, infinite mana combos are always fun. With only green mana to work with, I'd probably try Weird Harvest to grab more of these and Bramblewood Paragon for trample. Helix Pinnacle and Masticore are much faster and more practical though. I guess if you were really lucky with drawing, you could equip Helm of Kaldra.

At first I didn't like this card. I really felt it was lackluster. Then I tried it out in my Naya deck.

I really enjoy playing this card, I run 2 in my fattie deck. It's nice when you play that 5 or 6 CMC creature and can burn the rest of the mana on the Hydra to keep it growing.

Sorry Donovan, but it would still die as soon as it comes into play with 0 toughness.

this hydra is a pretty cool addition to the crea. type. very simple yet efective. a great card to have in your deck if you're playing emperor.

You know whats really awesome about this card is that it technically counts as a 1 mana 0/0 power creature for cards like ranger of eos and reveillark. The ability to play it as a 2/2ish and better earlier on, and then still be a 5 power creature late game when you top deck it is invaluable as well. Fun card in a green/black deck with rite of consumption, or red/green/white with brion stoutarm.

good with emperor for the emperor cos his sidekicks can activate it with spare mana

Phthisis anyone? They will see it come, even if it is not suspended. Any strenght can also be a weakness :D

Funny thing is, I might have played an Ivy Elemental because it scales, but the complexity of Feral Hydra turned me down completely. Some cards I put into my decks just for style points; muddle up the inherent coolness (aka elegance) of Ivy Elemental and I won't play it, even if it's an Ivy Elemental with an upside.

Would be fun with Mindslaver.

Arguably the most generic hydra out there, and rather underwhelming when compared with Protean and Primordial Hydras, as well as Apocalypse Hydra. This card is powered appropriately for an uncommon, not a rare. It has some limited use in team games and/or if the activation cost can be lowered (training grounds, etc.) Still, it should have been better, and the artwork is rather disappointing, too. Looks like a porcupine with a lot of heads vs. a hydra.

Strictly better than Ivy Elemental... unless you get Mindslavered with a counterspell in your hand and the opponent uses its ability to drain your mana pool in order to play a big spell their next turn that would've been countered otherwise. Though you still get to keep the +1/+1 counters unless that spell they played killed your guy.

I guess it's not strictly better then.

Training Grounds.

While 3 is probably the right rating for this card, try running with Proliferate effects and the Ordeals from Theros for a quick payoff.
