You could put this out on first turn with Dark Ritual and likely get it through on the following turn. You come out of it with +1 card advantage.

I feel compelled to mention that Shadow Rift is the best one of blue one mana "get in there" spells. For black you could cycle Dirge of Dread.

It should be mentioned that Artful Dodge works wonders here. Shadow Rift calls for an interesting choice, though. Do you want to draw the card off the Rift, and have a chance of it being anything in your deck, or do you want Dodge's flashback making it act like a drawn card, as if you had been guaranteed to draw another unblockable spell?

Works well with Funeral Charm: -Grants fear to allow you to get in for the discard three -If you've put them into topdeck mode, Funeral charm is the only mono-black instant-speed discard available, lock them out of their ability to play it! -It's discard anyway, so if you got the discard three off you can use it to ensure they'll discard another card. Minus 4 cards should put nearly any hand into top-deck mode.
This guy is great as he's one of the non-targeted discards available for black. The fact that Funeral Charm + him can be maindecked and can only be hated on with creature kill or with Stifle makes him very powerful. He can't be hated out with Leyline of sanctity, and you don't need targeted discard when the number is as high as this.
Used next to Unearth and Dark Ritual you nigh guarantee to nab your opponents hand early in the game, and if you're black and you and your opponent are both topdecking, you're in great shape!
Also notice that he's a finisher in a pinch. If you screwed them out of their creatures and hand with a good control deck, you can beat them for 2 while you wait for them to find an answer.
