"Flarg" is one of Magic's best made-up curse words, along with Stangg.
Oh, wait, this is a real card? For the love of Mark Rosewater, use Raging Goblin!!!

If I control any DWARVES? When's that ever going to happen?

I don't see how it's such a horrrrible card. A more or less negligible positive effect with a more or less negligible negative to match. Barring those two, it's basic fodder, and you never know, the Mountainwalk might someday help somehow. There are -far- better ones obviously, but does the poor guy really deserve a 1?

Better use Bazaar Trader to give its controller a Dwarven Grunt.

As has been observed elsewhere in these forums, a 1/1 for 1 is never bad unless it somehow kills you. It gets a 2 instead of a 1 rating since, while not an optimal play, I can see playing this and still being able to win a game. In the worst case, it can still hold a Goblin Grenade.

This is one of those cases where back in the day card design was as much about flavor as it was about abilities. Only the newest of new players is going to put this card in a deck alongside a Dwarven anything.

1/1 for 1cmc is worth a 2.5 right off the bat. It has a potential evasion ability and is part of a strong tribal type, so that raises it up a bit. Yeah, the "no dwarves" thing is weird, but the only way it'll ever be a problem is if an opponent decides they're going to go to the trouble of using Unnatural Selection or Conspiracy or something to turn one of your creatures into a dwarf. At that point you can laugh at them for going to all that trouble to kill off a 1/1.

I've heard that back in the day, Magic tournament players actually used to play this card with Dwarves in the deck (not sure which one, Dwarven Soldier maybe?), just because they needed fast red cards, and odds were that both the Dwarf and the Goblins of the Flarg wouldn't be on the field at the same time. Must have worked; it saw tournament play.

It should read When you are stupid enough to control a Dwarf, sacrifice Goblins of the Flarg moron.
EDIT: @Prizrak: Dude you owe me a new keyboard and a mountain dew cause it all just shot out of my nose.

Broken. Absolutely broken. Comes out on turn 1 and immediately starts a 20 turn countdown to your death, especially against a red deck. Worst part is, it's a GOBLIN, one of the best tribals ever. I run a Donate or a Bazaar Trader and some Dwarves in every red deck I make just to hose this abomination. Good thing they implemented this necessary drawback that allows this thing to be killed, otherwise God knows it would have kicked Black Lotus right off its throne at the top of the Power Nine.

Better not mess with these goblins! Y'know why? 'cause they're from the FLARG! They won't abide any dwarves! know why? No dwarves out on the FLARG!!

Believe it or not, not only did tournament players run this in a deck with dwarves, one of them, Paul Sligh, ran it in a deck with Dwarven Trader -- and won, getting into the pro tour in 1996 on it. Granted, this was the year when you were required to have five cards from every expansion, but still, he did it and won and the deck went on to become famous.

(Part of the reason that deck became famous was because it showed that a quick red deck built with cheap chaff rares like this one could still beat overwhelmingly powerful Necropotence decks if you built the deck carefully and could reliably hit your mana curve.)

They've gotten better over time, but red creatures are generally underpowered for a reason -- burn + weenies is a really really strong combination even with only so-so creatures like this.

I dont know what you smoke for breakfest but a 1/1 for 1 is always bad unless its doing something else. Check fugitive wizard or eager cadet if you think I am wrong.
