Protection only protects them from getting targeted or receiving any damage. just as creatures with protection from white are destroyed by Wrath of God, they are also affected by Moat.

This card is an ultimate response to about any aggro deck (except for Fearie aggro-control maybe).
Teferi's Moat is a decent remake of that card and most notably does not prevent you from attacking.

WOW! Has anyone seen how much it costs to get your hands on one of these?? Check it out for real if you don't already know. Obviously it's a great card, and it was never reprinted, so taking those factors it's understandable, I guess!

Cool, cool, cool. Awesome flavor, awesome ability, awesome art. The flavor text is okay. Used in the famous deck called "The Deck." I like this card.

More like spiritual predecessor to Magus of the Moat. Amazing card that shuts down most aggro offensives and lets you regain tempo. Anyone rating this below a 4.5 doesn't realize what he's looking at.

I always wondered how Merfolk, boats, and Leviathans are stopped cold by stagnant water.

I want to run it with Leyline of Sanctity. I'm wondering if that makes me evil...

@Mode
you would be NEARLY correct, the exception is a vampire deck, which is loaded with flyers, and of course vampire nocturnus.

got into an argument with a friend the other day about whether moat will prevent his creatures with 'protection from white' from attacking...

this card went from 100 dollars to 250 dollars in about one year. crazy

It was cheesy in the 16th century and it's still cheesy today. 5/5

@DJFalcon: Read the flavor text. Not all moats are filled with water. Thistles stop merfolk, lack of water stops boats, and things best left unseen stop leviathans.

You know who would really appreciate this card for what it's worth, AND get to use it next to Necropotence? Kaalia of the Vast.

You can also include Orim's Chant, Lightning Helix, and Terminate for your Isochron Scepter package. My, my this looks like such a delicious deck idea! :)

It is clear that this particular moat is, in fact, simply filled with an a$sload of money.

Magus of the Moat cost 250$ less, so ye keep that enchantment.

PFFT 5/5 but if you want a card very similar but for MUCH cheaper just go with Magus of the Moat arguably worse than this card, also arguably better, but still, can't beat his $ price

so just wanting to point out the moat + humility combo
unlike most combos in magic both pieces are actually quite considerably awesome all on their own
humility makes all creatures 1/1 and lose all abilities (flying + those creatures your opponent cares to use its ability more than to attack with)
moat since no creatures have flying anymore, purely awesome
im currently making a deck with this combo + iso chant + enlightened tutor + such things
& then 1 emrakul to be impervious to mill & i sit there in a lock till they deck themselves

Why would pro from white concern this card? Unless I'm wrong, I don't see any damage done by this card or any targeting at all.

Card of the Day, December 20th, 2012
I think the real reason here as to why this is so expensive is because it only saw print in Legends, which had somewhat of a limited print run. That and a lot of people want it, because it can be a one-card lock for your opponents if they don't have fliers.
In any case, it's coming to MTGO Cube Draft soon, with new art. Said art does not have the drawbridge down, and makes a lot more sense flavorwise.
"Crap they have a moat! Now how will we get to them?!"
"Dude, the drawbridge is down, let's just go across it."
"Impossible!"

-Decide to sideboard this.
-Look up price.
-Sideboard Magus of the Moat instead.

@gasimakos1

Your friend really needs to look up what protection does if he thinks pro white will let them attack.

It's awfully mundane looking with a fairly unassuming text and mana cost for such an expensive card. It's not even on the reserved list, 'tis crazy though and should be rated at least 4.5/5.

How Progenitus and Godsire are stopped by a moat is beyond me.
