Am I the only one that likes this card? Isn't it at least worth combining it with Meddling Mage?

I agree this meddling mage, and tidehollow sculler can be real annoying...

A great card, basically name your opponent's best card and he can't use it.

Wow. This just got really popular all of a sudden.
Well, the "metagame" has sort of turned around, to where this and meddling mage are GREAT, as well as other cards that limit your opponents options. Really, even if you don't mainboard this, you can sideboard it. Definitely worth the intimidation factor. (Counterbore, though, would be a more pricey but more effective way than this to counter a spell completely. Maybe I should run a control deck that runs off of permanent counters. This, counterbore, haunting echoes, traumatize, maybe a whole bunch of mill, maybe a guile (if I could get him out), mindlock orb, some boardwipe, if there is any that's the right color, who knows?

Elder Dragon Highlander strategy note: This card is noted for its use in being able to keep an opponent's general off the battlefield.

This is incredibly handy if you know whats coming. Telepathy would be a good first turn play with this second turn. Or Duress.

What? You were going to play Emrakul next turn? I don't think so.
Actually, this is my defense against Wrath of God in my newest deck

@Hibron You missed the "cant be countered" part of Emrakul
unless you are facing a relentless rats deck this card kind of sucks.

Combined with Aether Tradewinds, this card can be a real pain. I'd play it if it were still in Standard.

I feel like a bastard for playing this in EDH and naming my opponent's general.

@ simicfan: No, Declaration of Naught cannot stop land from being played. Rule 305.1 - ...Playing a land is a special action; it doesn't use the stack. Rather, the player simply puts the land onto the battlefield. Since the land doesn't go on the stack, it is never a spell, and players can't respond to it with instants or activated abilities.

Them: I will cast +card name+. You (in your best Borat imitation): *pause* Naught!
It's better now with Venser, the Sojourner. You can flash it in and out to change what you want to counter. I think it has great potential in that deck.

Yeah, you could name a land. But last I checked, there's no spell called Swamp.
This is just begging to be played in EDH. And my buddy runs Uril, the Miststalker as his general, so I can't really be considered that mean.

Very, very good EDH card. Save U for each potential cast of their commander, and you've effectively stopped what is probably one of their most powerful cards for the rest of the game.
Of course, depending on what they have access to you could get made unstuck by something like Gaea's Herald, Vexing Shusher or Trickbind.

This would be cruel for a general. Besides Lux Cannon and Karn Liberated, cant think of anything else to deal with this.
