I'm not really all that impressed with this card. A 9/9 for 6 mana seems alright, but if this gets blocked by a creature with 5 or more power, it will die.
If it had trample it might actually be good, but without it it will normally just weaken itself every time it gets chump blocked.

A five power creature wouldn't kill it without doublestrike or deathtouch. Wither just replaces normal damage with -1/-1 counters, so that would only bring it down to a 4/4. This is an ok card if you have a way to avoid the chump blockers.

It definitely needs trample! But with Garruk or Overrun Wurm becomes really powerful.

only useful if you can make it unblockable, as otherwise its shear domination of the mana curve is counteracted by the fact anything that blocks it gets wither for the turn

I disagree with the low rating. Any respectable monogreen deck will have a way to give it trample, and that's all you really need to make this a very effective card. And it's a wurm, you gotta dig the wurms.

Hmm. If you look at it purely as a large creature, and consider ways to completely void both the first and second triggers, Vigor and this guy start looking pretty good.

This feels like something Garruk the Veil-Cursed might summon-- it's a very green creature, somewhat dark though because it's from Shadowmoor, and like Cursed Garruk, its natural state is a weakened version of itself that it is constantly seeking to overcome....or overrun?
@ Kryplixx, heed your own advice and then look at what you just said. It's not a 9/9 tramp wurm for 6.. It's a 9/9 withery wurm for 6.. Just b/c a certain color or type of deck can or even should, does not by any means, make it definite that it WILL. And there's not a card in magic that gives trample for free. Least, not that I'm familiar with. What you said is as absurd as claiming an Elite vanguard is 2/1 w/Lifelink for 1 mana just b/c white offers it! Yah it OFFERS it just as green OFFERS trample.. For a cost.. Which is typically supplied by playing lands, which, if used for trample and/or lifelink, will be unavailable for use on what could have been spent on something else that would help your chances of winning HAD the aforementioned card(s) included the aforementioned abilities in the casting cost. But here's the thing.. They don't. And therefore, you made an uneducated statement. Next time, don't throw stones and uhm use your head, guy! XD hahaha BURN!
Considering Rancor has just been reprinted, and the way green can ramp, I could see this making it's way into some kind of mono-green aggro deck for modern. 11/9 trampler? My inner-Timmy is smiling.
