Hilarious when used with a prince of thralls under your control. Or if you have a necroskitter in play and played a soul snuffers the turn before.

I hate this card, and by that I mean I wish I had one! ;-)
A buddy of mine loves to play a ridiculous mana-building black deck that focuses on this card and Reiver Demon as well as the nice Blood Speaker / Deathrender combo.
When he gets to use Liliana's Ultimate I just cry :'(

This cards cost is huge but when u get to play it it should be victory.
Or u could play it first turn: Swamp, 4 Dark Rituals for total 9 mana then this. Though i don't know why anyone would do it.

nice card, Kresh loves him some death and this is pretty good at causing it, t6 is a good turn to play it, right after kresh hits and can swing with lethal force if you got enough of their creatures in the wind
outside EDH, I cant see a place for this, T9 you need to have won or you are dead, either by your creatures being removed or they have had insane life gain, the wind may turn a game still

Cruddy card. By the time you get to play this I'll have killed you 3 or 4 times with a Darksteel Colosuss and for only 2 more mana or even less if I cheat him into play.

This, with Liliana Vess on the table. :) Not that she can't do with Damnation as well, but it's actually harder to get and more expensive. And mana isn't that much of a factor in monoblack decks - even without Dark Rituals, some Cabal Coffers and/or a Nirkana Revenant or two, and you can cast whatever you want.

Hmm...
Anyone else think it'd be cool if there was a card that let you destroy any number of target creatures? I guess normally it would function like this card, but it would be more open to Donate shenanigans and the like.

Awesome card. Just the right cost for the effect. If all else fails you can speed things up with Dark Ritual.

Remember, this is a finisher, not a combo piece or a defensive reset button. Your opponent is laid bare, virtually defenseless, and the game has gone long enough to resolve a 9 mana spell, if you don't win on the turn you cast this, you are bad at magic and should find a new hobby (or at least stop playing black ramp decks?)

Good card for Lord of Extinction as well. Me and some of my friends were just doing a casual 3-way match with teams of two people, just to see how it went, and one of my friends was playing a deck that focused on resurrecting and the like. There were a ton of creatures on the field, and he had this card ready to use, but my Lord of Extinction just happened to have Shroud, so he knew what would happen if he did. :B He never got a chance to use it.

I can't take it. Please pay attention:
Kadence: Shroud would not protect your Lord of Extinction - or any other creature - from the effect of Plague Wind. The only things that would prevent a creature from going to the graveyard as a result of this Sorcery would be Indestructible. Persist would bring it back AFTER it went toward the graveyard, if it didn't have a negative counter, already.
Shroud protects something FROM BEING TARGETED. TARGETED. Plague Wind does not target.
This is the problem with fancy keywords. Cards just need to have things spelled out clearly, instead. Imagine that.

@steez4days: Not always better than this. This works wonders in multiplayer where Overwhelming Forces works best against a single player. There's nothing wrong with running both if you can afford them though - Overwhelming Forces deals quite handily with anyone trying to amass tokens.
Can be devastating. Can also be useless vs no creature deck. Or dead draw because you cant afford it yet.

It's really interesting when you look at where this came from.
This card was by far the best of the cycle of Winds from Prophesy. A relatively weak set, Prophesy had nearly no value, excluding the odd card like Rhystic Study, Avatar of Woe, and the cycle of spellshapers (Mageta the Lion's a good example).
The cycle is made of these 5 cards: Blessed Wind - Target players life is 20. Denying Wind - Search and exile 7 cards from a players library. Plague Wind - You know Searing Wind - Deal 10 damage to creature or player Vitalizing Wind - Your creatures get +7/+7
Except for Searing Wind, none of these spells were printed again... Or at least the players didn't want them printed. From what I heard, 8th-10th edition were mostly player-created, where players were asked to choose the cards in the set. Just goes to show how much people love the Plague, despite having to pay 9 for it.

@Lundaling Yes it does, because it doesn't target your creatures. So cards like this that effect everything, like Wrath of God, get around hexproof and shroud.
On a side note from that. I love this card. I have a couple of them, but only one generally makes it in a deck. This card holds beautiful utility. Mine are 9th edition though, and have the awesome flavor text. nananananananaaaaa

@Yoktes In Yugioh, that card (Raigeki) is banned and has been so since they've introduced the ban list. Magic is the better game, but both games having stupidly broken banned cards (Ancestral Recall anybody?) is not a reason why.
