At 1 CC this thing is a bargain for control decks.

Well that'll learn all those decks for not putting any artifact-destruction in won't it! :P. I love this card, it's in my slightly-slow-to-get-moving Memnarch Control decks sideboard.

I love that this was printed before the phrase "blue-white control" became a stock phrase in every Magic player's vocabulary. Blue and white meet perfectly with this card.

White has ways to make hordes of soldiers and, more importantly, vigilance. One of these with Captain of the Watch or Mobilization (or Serra's Blessing if you have some problem with Soldiers) will make your opponent curse himself for not running more artifact removal and putting so much stock in the hugeness of his creatures. With Meekstone out, good old Serra Angel quickly puts Baneslayer to shame and dominates the board. As good as lifelink is, it can't always substitute for vigilance.

Blue is good for lending support in the form of Trinket Mage and other artifact-search cards, as well as providing ways to counter the artifact removal that could end the one-sided lockdown and turn the tide of the game against you.

It's probably one of the best control cards in the game, though I can understand why Wizards wouldn't want to reprint it, seeing as how a card that shuts down most decks that rely on the novel idea of "winning by attacking" is absolutely no fun to play against.

This would be fun to run with a deck with a lot of firebreathing. Perhaps this could combo well with Thunderstaffs.

IS it bad that I want to build U/W control with Squadron Hawk, Trinket Mage, and this?

Works well in a Chandra's Spitfire/Tim deck.
However, I always feel dirty using it. It is a very unfun card.
Obviously, you wait until this will lock something down, or it will be played around. As long as you get at least one thing, then it was one mana and one card well spent.

Wow. This looks horrifically effective for just 1. And it can be easily used by weenie and control decks alike.

No one mentioned the funny combo with Thran Weaponry?
Play Kobolds, Meekstone, Thran Weaponry, and this. Most creatures can't untap, but yours can! Yours are also free, so feel free to Winter Orb everyone as well! Heck! Put down things like mana breach and overburden.

You don't need your lands once the combo is assembled and your opponents have to sit and watch. Combine with propaganda and iron maiden for alternative win cons.

Hilarious deck as your opponents basically have to watch helplessly as you build your mighty empire. Most artifact and enchant hate can't get through easily, and even if they would? You have spell pierce and force spike ready :D

Today we have Blind Obedience which costs half the cmc of Kismet.
Extort instead of also tapping lands seems fair to me.

As the name might suggest, this card goes nicely with Weakstone. Anything with 1 power is useless, anything with 3 or more power only gets in one attack, and 2-power creatures have their damage halved.

It works especially well since the Weakstone only works during the combat phase, which means that the creatures regain their power in time for Meekstone to keep them tapped.
