Green flier and burn? Ah yes, TS block...

Pretty devastating. One of my buddies has these guys, add that up with a few overgrowths and other mana-acceleration, and these bees are a game-ender if you can't take care of them.

That's gotta be the most badass wasps you'll ever see. And the last.

Okay, what the heck? This card breaks all kinds of color pie. Flying is blue/white, "Shade" is black, and burn is red! These bees stole something from every other color!! I think that the only thing more confusing than why they printed this card is why it wasn't in Planar Chaos.

@Selez:
It's actually NOT stealing from the rest of the pie (Even though it is), it's just referencing two rather old cards:
Its a green shade, what more could you ask for? Seems like green would be the best color to have that ability in anyway, sense it has the best mana axel.

I love this card for soooooooo many reasons.
1. It's a flyer. IN GREEN.
2. It's a good flyer. IN GREEN.
3. Shade works so much better in the ramp color than in black.
It's been said that "cellar door" is the most beautiful pair of words in the English language. The most beautiful single word is "BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!"

This card isn't bad in principle, but I wonder what goal it accomplishes in practice. If you want direct damage, green already has trample and super trample. If you want something to block flying, are you really going to leave all your forests untapped every turn so that you'll be ready to pump?
Now as a combo with Seedborn Muse or something I can see it working just fine. But without some kind of synergy, it seems to fail at achieving a goal very directly.
So, my friends and I did a Time Spiral draft recently, cracked open my third pack, and this was a snap pick for me. Not because I was going to use it in my draft deck, but because I wanted this in rare binder ASAP in my "no trades" section. Best creature ever.

Bear Umbra This card is a key player in my Bees deck. With both Killer Bees and this baby plus some Green Sun's Zenith it is quite reliable. Go with Overgrowth, Arbor Elves and whatnot it can be blisteringly fast. Turn one forest elf, turn two, forest overgrowth, turn three bees, llanowar druid and some mana to gutteral response/ranger's guile to protect it. Turn four win. The best part is it is all quite replicable, not a wacky magical christmas land sort of thing.

Why is this so high rated? Okay it does 2 damage in green. For SEVEN mana. SEVEN. That's enough for a 4/5 rating?
Is this the storm crow troll thing all over?

Shade ability In green On a flyer
I think this could probably hit someone for about a billion on turn 0 (or more realistically, 7-9 on t4.)

With the new devotion mechanic in Theros, this card is going to be so incredibly viable in modern.
