Bad card is bad. But sometimes, a bad card gets to define a cost and P/T. 1/2's for 2 are Squires. 2/2's for 2 are Bears (Grizzly Bears). 2/2's for 3 are Gray Ogres and so on.

It's too bad nothing makes 1/2 token creatures, because then these could find some use.
@bowlofgumbo: This is not the worst card in Magic, not even the worst creature. Outside Draft/Sealed it's not gunna see play, true, but in Sealed or Draft taking a bad card or three to fill out your deck is necessary. No way this should ever have occupied a rare slot, though (yea, yea, 'Timeslided', but it's efectively a rare slot).

God, all of y'all need to get a grip. Squire has played an unquestionable role in the game of Magic. There once was a time when Squire really was pretty amazing. And, yes, now it's probably not that effective, but Squire's legacy is undisputable. Why else would Kenji slap on to the table an unmorphed Willbender and exclaim "Squire!" It's because, while he may not be that impressive today, Squire's legacy is what is important.

For the record, it was reprinted in order to drive home that no, the past was NOT strictly Mox gems, Mana Drain, Channel, etc. As for its existence in the first place, remember that at the time The Dark came out, the Spike demographic was only just barely beginning to be recognized, compared to the Timmy, Johnny, and Vorthos demographics (not under those names, admittedly...). This was for the Vorthos set.
By the way, it isn't STRICTLY superior to Repentant Blacksmith, at least not if you're playing a red-white deck with things like Giant Strength or Firebreathing (remember, well before Spike was recognized)...

The only way this card would have been any good is if Ned Beatty's picture had been on it and it had been called "Squealer".
I remember having this back in the day. It's always sad when there's a vanilla card worse than Grizzly Bears.

Time Spiral was a set to remember the past and this is one of those iconic cards that everyone knows like Grizzly Bears or Storm Crow or Gray Ogre and is remembered for its flavor and history. Just because its not the best card in the world doesn't mean its the absolute worst thing that ever happened.
Also, if you guys think R&D are doing a terrible job and all the new stuff sucks and things used to be cooler/more fun/entertaining...STOP COMMENTING AND GO PLAY SOME OTHER GAME. It's just not cool.

I pulled a foil Squire back in the days of time spiral. At first i was upset for getting a poopy card in my foil slot, but soon, he grew on me. One of my most favorite sentimental cards. Sometimes he's my 15th card in a sideboard just for ***. 2/5 Stars
