....why did they make a red-headed card?

What do you have against redheads Hydrogoose? I think this card isn't that bad, discard a land to get two 1/1 creatures.

Not the best of cards, but it'll shine in the late game.

Like Krovikan sorcerer, it does wonders with madness style decks.

Turn every card in your hand into a Raise the Alarm. Gives you options, which is important, especially in the later game when you'll be drawing useless early game cards.

A spellshaper casting half of an Icatian Town at one-fourth the price.

When I got one of these in a booster pack, I thought it was awesome. Then I actually played it. I found myself never using her ability since a Raise the Alarm was always worse than whatever cards I had in my hand if it wasn't going to make tokens of a useful tribal type. I'm sure it has its uses with madness or decks that really want a lot of creatures but for some reason aren't playing green, which has so many better options. But aside from that, this card doesn't really need to be in any decks.

Hairless Thoctar, you mean one-third of the price.

@Hydrogoose

I suppose you don't like Healing Leaves either?

You guys will be suprised how many kill spells are flung at Icatian Crier whenever I play her online. I play her in my lifegain deck with Soul Wardens, so it can be pretty threatening. Useful for both lifegain and chump blocks.

Perfect midgame creature. 4/5

@ dberry: I hear ya. Hook her up with a Guardians' Pledge too. She's the star of a pretty solid pauper deck I built, check it out:

A human that can pitch Dearly Departed. Awesome.

Are the Citizen tokens she generates considered to be Humans? Because if so, she's got a date with Innistrad's Champion of the Parish...

@Braden_Campbell

No, citizen tokens are just citizens. They aren't human or anything else, just citizens. I know, it makes no sense.

Each Time Spiral card was an homage to at least one previously printed card.

The card references Icatian Town; this spellshaper turns any card in your hand into half of one for a third of the cost! Icatia was the seat of human civilization on the continent of Sarpadia during the events of Fallen Empires; warring factions from each color as well as the encroaching Ice Age led to the fall of Icatia and all of the other Sarpadian Empires.

Should've been Human tokens.

So, uh, what's the difference between Citizens and Townsfolks?

sleetfox: green does not have better token-swarm options than white, unless you go thallids, which is a different thing. white/red are the quick token generators.

4.5/5. its great late game, but you wont play her in competitive or powerful casual.

@Jdrawer:
Townsfolk is a defunct creature type. Twelve Townsfolk were printed, but they've all since lost that type. Oddly, none of them became Citizens. (http://magiccards.info/query?s=issue&q=ct:townsfolk+-e:uh)
"Citizen" only ever appeared on Icatian Town, and probably should've been eradicated in favor of Human or Soldier. But then Time Spiral came along and revived it for nostalgia's sake (with Icatian Crier and Sarpadian Empires, Vol. VII).
The real facepalm moment is when you realize both creature types originated in Fallen Empires.
