This is certainly not aPhyrexian Negator but an interesting successor nevertheless. While certainly being decent card during its time, it suffers from limited playability. There will certainly be times where you will find yourself with only this thing left in your hand, ironically slowing down hellbent decks at times.

There are plenty enough ways in constructed to turn its drawback into an advantage, e.g. Bloodghast and Cabal Therapy.

If only there was another avatar in the same colors that benefited from things in the graveyard... *cough*Demigod of Revenge*cough*

I've seen this come out turn 1 with a Dark Ritual. Second scariest opening play I've ever seen.
(I've also seen Erayo, Soratami Ascendant flipped on turn 1... that was before we knew it was banned in 2 headed giant.)

you can cast up to 3 on your first turn, but none of them will stick because you will have nothing to discard

What's makes you happy to be eating a Mind Rot or Blightning? Having two Vengevines in your hand of course. Makes me want to try it but I'm worried about the colors :/ Just imagine turn 1 Stomping Grounds or something, Birds of Paradise, turn 2 land Avatar of Discord, discard two Vengevines. Turn 3 land, Bloodbraid Elf cascading into a creature, then you swing for 16. So many ways to use the drawback to your advantage.
Seriously? discard extractor demon and hit for 10 in the air by turn four.

Everyone also has to remember power creep. But man, me opening this card, Rakdos Pit Dragon, and the Tutor from this set in THE SAME DRAFT, I should have won.
But I was only 15 and wasn't as good as I am now ;)
Still a great turn one card with a Rit. Helps out Hellbent, gets Unearth creatures and Bloodghast into the graveyard... etc

Great creature with combo potential in a reanimator deck. Heck, it's just great by itself. Awesome art and flavor, too.
Wow, I never realized the sacrifice part (I read it as etb: discard 2 cards)

I like this with Demigod of Revenge, Demon of Death's Gate, Bloodghast, Gravecrawler, Geralf's Messenger, and Living Death.

Card of the Day, December 12th 2012, Ah Avatar of Discord, one of the handful of creatures (or maybe a couple handfuls) that can, by themselves, win a game on or before Turn 7 just by attacking every turn. It all comes down to that Mana Cost/ Power Ratio. See the Ajani vs. Nicol Bolas version of Woolly Thoctar for more information.

Turn 2: Exhume whatever monster you dropped earlier. Swing for 5.
Turn 3: Assault Strobe the Demon. Swing for 23 (28 total).
