probably one of the most awesome casual cards i can think of, with competitive implications as well

Although this card is very mana-intensive, it is a great way to remove any type of tokens. It also offers the versatility to destroy creatures, enchantments, and artifacts. The only thing to watch out for is that it destroys your own cards too.

Poor man's pernicious deed. Dostoyevsky is awesome.

That use aside, this is a great card.

This is not a poor man's anything. It can be used right away, whereas if you want to use Pernicious Deed as soon as you cast it, it will cost you one more mana. Also, it's much more finely tuned - Pernicious Deed destroys everything BELOW a certain casting cost, but with this you can simply choose the casting cost that your opponent has the most permanents of to maximize card advantage. And that's not even mentioning the split-ness of it. Very versatile card, and it's in Doran, the Siege Tower's colors.

Highly desirable in the EDH variant common to casual multiplayer matches.

Cards that specifically reanimate/return enchantment is a rare breed. The cost is high but the effect is versatile.

You guys are looking at this the wrong way. You need to think of this as a 2nd maelstrom pulse! Granted, X will normally be more than 1, it has the potential to hit more than just your intended target. For example, I just played an EDH game where my opponent had leyline of sanctity, wall of reverence, and linvala, keeper of silence. This card wiped them all off the board and then I was able to attack with my general, Doran, to kill his weakened Gideon.

Pernicious Deed is much closer to a board clearing spell like Wrath of God or Planer Cleansing. Punishment is more like a spot removal spell like Vindicate or Maelstrom Pulse, like a7141988 mentioned. This card seems to be inspired by Deed, but is less powerful to offset the option of casting Crime instead.

I love this card; I played almost every one of the ten tri-colored split cards in Dissension. (Rise // Fall, Supply // Demand, Odds // Ends, Hit // Run, and the BW small Cranial // RW Disenchant, just to name a few)

One of the most memorable FNM match went:
Opponent (UWg control): Simic Sky Swallower!
Me (Chord of Calling toolbox): Clone!
Opponent: attack, trade, cast another SSS
Me: Crime on your SSS
(I lost that game)

This card was an all-purpose removal spells, and it's particularly good at clearing the field of Signets. Fun, versatile, and winning me some games.

I love the Punishment half... No, it isn't a poor man's pernicious deed, instead calibrating the value of X you can save your permanents, destoying only the opponent's ones... Moreover it has a plan B in the form of the Crime half and it isn't so irritating like the Deed. It cost less than Maelstrom Pulse when it comes to destroing tokens, and it can destroy all kinds of token al the same time, not just one like the Maelstrom. I think that a more approriate comparison would be Engineered Explosives

I've never undestood why mass-destruction effects like Punishment is BG, or W... It seems to me that should be B or BR!
However, I like it very much...

@Black_Sun28: I guess YOU didn't noticed that both Crime and Punishment share the same Community Comment pool... Like any split, flip and transform card...

Multiple copies are nice, since you can yoink cards you destroyed with previous copies.

This is called coming prepared. It’s for those who take pride in packing their own lunch. There are some lighter versatility options in multi-part cards, but this one is for a bit deeper into the game with excellent punch. They are both excellent sorcery spells.
The only gripes are if you’re looking for only wiping your opponent’s side of the board; Punishment obviously cleans both sides. You also need some white, black and green mana.

Like other's have said, it is good spot removal for a deck.

Hey, Sword of War and Peace is A Thing, now.....Would Sword of Crime and Punishment actually have these effects on it do you think? o.O
