Likes most Arabian Nights Djinns, this is a great card, but the drawback for this Djinn is too high...

I agree not only is has drawback cost high, but for what he does (to you), I can't see anyone paying that much for him on the secondary market, in spite of his great artwork (you've outdone yourself, Anson Maddocks).

Just stick a Spirit Link on him then not only do you get 5 life each turn he attacks, but it also takes the edge off his upkeep drawback. Stick 2 Spirit Links on and it becomes a nice bonus!

HE'S GOT PIERCED NIPPLES. I don't think any Magic creature will ever be able to top this guy....

the oracle rulings states their sacrificed so only the Oboro combo works(and it works quite nicely except you lose that land drop)

Actually, none of those land combos works. If you bounce Orobi, then upon resolution of Serendib Djinn's ability, you would still have to sacrifice a land. Sacrificing indestructible lands still sends them to the graveyard. Indestructibility is not immune to sacrifice.

Yeah, the drawback is brutal, but a 5/6 flyer for 2UU is pretty stupidly powerful, even by today's standards. The main problem I see is him being nailed with a Pacifism effect and eating all your lands since you can't just sac the Djinn instead of a land as long as you still have lands.

I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet :
Back in the day, Serendib Djinn hadn't been nerfed with errata, and did what the card said : it tried to destroy one of your lands.
Hellooooooo, Consecrate Land.
That was Consecrate Land's best (and really, only) combo.
I don't know why or when exactly Wizards decided to change the ruling to "sacrifice". I'm pretty sure I still have the original newsgroup ruling that confirmed the djinn is sated by the destruction attempt, somewhere....

I have to agree with reapersaurus. I had been lead to believe that the purpose of errata is to restore a cards original functionality in the face of rules changes. This card clearly states that it destroys a land and that should be maintained as a functional aspect of the card rather than tossed aside in lieu of a completely different mechanic simply because some painfully green player, who has unfortunately been given a job he or she is incapable of, decided they prefer it that way. I have been playing since a time when both consecrate land and Serendib Djinn were being played against me in tournaments and there is nothing about this game that annoys me more than decisions made by wizards employees based nearly entirely on their own ignorance. Wizards would do well to have a specialized team of long time players to ensure that these things stop happening. Whoever has been charged with the task of maintaining errata that is representative of the original and intended use of cards for the past ten years has failed miserably.

And now we have demon tokens with pierced nipples. I can't wait for the next 5 power flier with pierced nipples, there's obviously a correlation between the two.

I mentioned Dakmor Salvage on my modern masters comment, but I really think this guy is stellar. He's a 4.5 or 5/5 for me. Between him, delver of secrets and Serendib Efreet blue has some immensely powerful flying beatdown for cheap.

Also consider Wormfang Drake and Skaab Ruinator, but you'll want a boatload of early control cards to really seal the deal. These types of creatures sitting next to Sphere of Resistance, Winter Orb, Tangle Wire, or similar can really end the game fast; locking the opponent down quickly.

Consider Life from the Loam as a means to keep this guy's drawback from eating you up too badly. Note that opponent's have to choose between 1-for-1 with removal, or waiting to try and 2-for-1. If they wait, you'll have counterspell mana open.

While he's near $20, I may have to shell out for him. He's just so immensely powerful and tough and the game clock gets very short very quick.
