An outstanding card, both in terms of ability and flavor.

Awesome art, great ability, and shockingly well-costed for a Kamigawa card. Total Ninja.

By far my favourite non-legendary ninja

They need to make more ninjas. Textless ninjas...... with ninjutsu.

Can u ninjitsu it in after combat damage? I just realized, isn't it an attacker still during the combat damage phase? Idk, I love it nonetheless.

Every time I look at this card I think it should be uncommon.
But I'm happy it isn't, because I can play it in the Pauper Format.
Same thing with Deft duelist.
Two of the best common creatures in my opinion.

Wait, then does that mean you could ninja him in between the first strike and regular combat damage steps to get double hits? I suspect it does. HMMMMM.

Have you ever tried dropping your ninjas on the enemy via an Ornithopter?

Let me tell you... it is surprisingly effective. I had a BlueBlack deck that I had put little unblockable guys into in order to better hit folks with ninjas, but I found it to be unwieldy and I often didn't have enough mana to cast what I wanted to cast after the ninjas had hit. Ornithopter gets around a lot of those problems by costing 0, and it has evasion!

If you haven't tried NinjasRidingOrnithopters.dec, you should really give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised, and now I will swear by it.

Actually channelblaze, you are correct, he can be ninjutsu'd in after combat damage. Look at the official rulings on Higure, the Still Wind for more information.

@littlebeast
According to the rulings, yes you can. A neat little trick I've enjoyed doing is to give my preferred Ninja first strike, deal first strike combat damage, ninjutsu him out with a cheap ninja like Mistblade Shinobi or Skullsnatcher, then ninjutsu the Ninja I just took out back in, right on time for regular combat damage. In the case of Ninja of the Deep Hours, assuming he's holding a No-Dachi (and there's no Ronin Warclub in play), that trick will give you six damage and two cards for 1UU.

I love ninjas! I wish they would print more. Put a Ninja in Magic 2012, Wizards!

The Ninja of the Deep Hours waits silently in the shadows, waiting for his time to come, waiting to strike. Waiting for the day when Wizards of the Coast prints a 1-drop unblockable creature.

Another excellent Ninja, especially for the Ninjutsu cost. Card draw FTW.

@Ladon

You can only activate Ninjutsu after First strike damage is dealt if there's a triggered ability put on the stack. Giving Higure first strike will mean that the triggered ability that searches for a Ninja will be put on the stack and can be responded to. If the creature doesn't have any triggered abilities, it can't be cast between first strike and regular damage steps.

@Ladon

That's not actually correct. First strike creates an additional combat damage step. After the damage is dealt, each player will gain priority before moving to the second combat damage step.

So for 2 mana you get a 2/2 that will definitely hit and you draw a card and the 2/2 stays around and gets you a card every time it hits and it's a common. Still seems ridiculously awesome in this power creepy world.
