Combine this with Erayo, Soratami Ascendant and you're pretty untouchable. In that case your opponent needs to target a creature with the first spell/ability each turn, otherwise 2 spells/abilities would get countered...^^

I counter your Kira with my L!

Great since as opposed to most other effects of that sort it protects itself, effectively forcing your opponent to waste one removal spell if he/she does not have any board sweepers. On top of that Kira still provides a decent flyer at his cost.

Question. Does Kira's ability also affect YOUR spells. Say i wanted to enchant one of my creatures or cast some sort of power boosting instant. Would kiras effect counter my spell? Or does it only apply when an opponent targets one of my creatures?

Semi-shroud!! This may be even more fun than actual shroud, since it presents your opponents with a very annoying question: should I waste two removal spells on one creature? The obvious answer being yes, since the other creatures are protected also. I'd say you should also play Vines of Vastwood with this card. Your opponent plays one removal spell, countered. The glass shield is down, so you can target Kira now too. Then they play another, and you respond with a Vines of Vastwood, kicked or unkicked. Meh heh heh heh!! And if they have another removal spell so what, they just used three cards to remove ONE creature. Kira, one of the best, most fun card designs ever. 5 outta 5.

Yes taysman, this card states if it would be the target of any spell or ability this turn for the 1st time counter it, doesn't matter if it's yours or your opponent.

The artwork is interesting. It reminds me of either a piece of coral or the Zerg.

I love combining this guy with Magus of the Abyss. Sure, it nullifies kira's ability on your turn because it's saving you from sacrificing a creature. But then you've got options to deal with it. Personally, I like having Nullstone Gargoyle in play too, he's a good way to keep your opponent's spells in check.

@Selez They wouldn't be able to target it again; vines of the vastwood prevents that. So they effectively wasted 2 removal spells with no chance of redemption. :)

Wow Awesome Card Good Choice For Sun Titan In A Deck I'm Buildin Right Now As Well
This is to every commenter that has ever uttered "This would be good if it didn't die to X", where X is the name of any removal spell they care to cite.
Here. Are you happy now?

Obviously you'll want to run this in a deck that doesn't target your own creatures with anything. Failing that, though, any free to activate abilities can be used to take the shields down if you need to pump something. Try Reconnaissance for combat tricks or Nomads en-Kor for whenever.

You can't really expect full shroud with a three drop but this is good enough. Having your opponent lose twice the cards and tap for twice the mana is good enough. Don't forget you can still counterspell.
Still; this card isn't some miracle worker since in Legacy format there is a lot of wrath of gods, oblivion stones, all is dust, and other board clearing cards or Diabloic Edicts that can remove creatures without targeting.
so it gives all your creatures an inferior form of shroud? it seems kinda bad when you think of it like that, but hey, it only costs 3 mana.

This is so bad it dies to 2 swords to plowshares. You guys are idiots its amazing since in eternal formats ie legacy and vintage edh doesn't count there are not that many board wipes used since they're not needed, for example noone uses oblivion stone, and the fact that nimble mongoose is actually the centerpiece of some decks since it has shroud, and that thrun sees play in legacy. These are all reasons why its amazing using targeted removal against him is a losing game, and untill you get rid of him it is almost impossible to actually do anything against your opponents board. Also if you use doj or wog against him then cool your not saving it until there's better targets on the board and i don't have to worry about overextending.

Absurdly good creature protection, almost as good as outright giving them all hexproof. Perhaps even better, because at worst he (she? it?) will suck up two of your opponent's kill spells. If all else fails, a 2/2 flier for 3 CMC is still a good deal.

I was looking to make a mono blue control EDH and after reading up on some creatures, Kira was just way to good to pass up. Yeah, opponents can target me making me sac things (like Diabolic Tutor), but for the most part Kira, keeps your stuff safe, however there is a drawback. The ability will counter anything you try to do to creatures as well.
Since my deck is somewhat instant/sorcery heavy (what blue deck wouldn't be), I decided to run Runechanter's Pike. The other day I targeted Kira with the Pike, and it gets countered the first time, I equipped it again and it stayed, this however allowed my opponent to tap Kira before my attack phase. That bought him a turn, but it's something I was well aware could happen, and it was worth the risk.
He was playing a mono white Lin-Sivvi rebel EDH, his lack of flying is what did him in, that and the 4 Frost Titans I managed to doppleganger into play keeping everything tapped.

It's gotta be the best feeling in the world when you vial this in response to opponent's removal and they are like, ***, man!
I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for a Near, Breaker of Glass card in future.

You: Sure. Play Sun Titan, bring Kira back.
Opponent flips table.
Eternal Witness also works.
I thought it was pretty good when I thought *it* was the only creature who had this ability.
