sorry, but what makes this card so powerful? execpt the fact that you could play a second land the turn you summon it (which is great but no quite uber like the black lotus or a lot of other cards)

It's all about having access to more mana than your opponent earlier. Imagine getting two Moxs in hand - by turn two, you have access to 4 mana (more if you have Llanowar elves or Birds of Paradise). Sure, Black Lotus is better, but if your deck can't win on turn two, having the stability to constantly draw more mana per turn than your opponent helps more in games.

Anyone who asks why Moxes are good needs to get in a time machine with me, travel back to 1993, help me buy all the Alpha and Beta and then trade me all of their Moxes.

for nothing, theres a 'tap for mana' ability... very very useful, and diversification of the mana sources is always useful.. for example, if your opponent springs a armageddon/limited resources/balance or whatever, moxes dont count under them!

Better than normal lands, superior over artifact lands.
TBH, I don't see the Moxes as being great, but who wants to pass on a better card that can substitute for a land (but is better because being able to play another "land" is well worth the artifact weakness that is situational. And can even be an advantage in certain decks)?

Definitely the coolest looking mox.

I totally understand why this is rated worst of the moxes
Imagine on T1 you pull 3 moxes, a lotus, and an academy. Thats 10 mana and you would be doing shit like that all the time. Just make every deck you play run this and insane broken card atvantage.

@klust3r that's because MTG is a speed race and cards like this one are the nitro boost that give you a headstart also, it's 0 mana..

A play set of P9 + Tendrils of Agony = Game over turn one and nearly unstoppably.

I think Mox Opal is fantastic, I can't even imagine what it would be like to play with these cards...

Moxes are power people, I've used them all, even before the restricting rules came out. Why are the moxes powerful? well on their own each mox is a boost for speed mana, which is powerful (not broken) what makes them broken is using all 5 in the same deck, plus those newer ones Diamond, Opal and the Chrome.
it's like playing 4 lightning bolts, you draw 1 and bolt the guy he's at 17 (still alot of life) you play another from your opening hand he's at 14, the more bolts the more effective the resault. The same goes for Moxes, when your opening hand is..
Mox Emerald, Any land, Mox Diamond, any other land, Wheel of Fortune, (and 2 whatever cards, could be counterspell and Force of Will)
you drop a land, drop the Emerald, drop the Diamond and ditch a land, tap them play Wheel
You just hosed your opponent, they discard 7 and you both draw 7 new cards. At this point you've only played 2 moxes out of 8 (1 copy of each in the deck plus a Lotus) what are your chances of drawing more? pretty good, you can also draw more draw cards like Timetwister, Windfall, Memory Jar, Ancestral Recall plus you could be playing with Lotus Pedal, Dark Ritual's and such for even more lightspeed mana.
Moxes are called power for a reason. And for anyone wanting to say "oh those opening hands don't happen" guess again, rare opening hands were when we didn't do anything broken on the first turn.

ugh...i hate looking at this card. I still have a piece of it. There was comp for create your own card when i was little and i cut this up and pasted it on tranquillity and wrote "gem eater" on it........a 99/99 that requires you to sac mana sources each turn....ya not even a cool card and i had no idead how much it was worth until my first con and i cried litteraly

What I want to know is why this is banned in Commander, but Sol RIng isn't. Being able to drop it without playing a land isn't a huge advantage in that format, and I wouldn't have thought the coloured mana was THAT big a difference either.
