Pretty nasty for a burn deck, as a 4 damage instant is damaging. Isochron Scepter could have a field day with this thing.

I wish cards like this didnt require the random discard as a cost, and instead did it on resolution-- letting me have the option to go "hellbent" and empty my hand first.

If this cost 1 then you'd really have an interesting card. As is, I usually don't want to be discarding another card at random just for a marginally better incinerate.

The first time i saw this i thought it was an enchantment because of the misleading wording. I was like W0000t o.o!

Great with R&D's Secret Lair.
1st turn: Mountain
2nd: Lair, Burst, discard 5 cards while it is on the stack, 20 damage on your opponent's face!
Your opponent cannot even counter it as it is an activated ability. Just watch out for Stifle effects. :P

Once upon a time, I used to play this card, and enjoyed it very much even without madness or cemetery tricks... 4 damages for only is quite powerful, considering that Lightning Bolt wasn't the standard anymore at its time, and that you have to spend something between to to achieve this amount of damages or such cards require you other form of card disadvantage! I'm thinking about Cackling Flames, Char, Flame Javelin, Lightning Blast and the like. Forgive me if I forget something...
Shrapnel Blast is a little on the broken side, in that it's an instant and there were Artifact land that helped it very much...
Artillerize... I don't know...

However, a good card whatever you haters think about it! Plus, you can copy it with, saying Izzet Guildmage and do 8 damages for , or 12 for to different targets...! For nostalgia and for its true power, I think that I'll give it a 5/5

As a side note, there aren't many damage spell with a sound-based flavour. They are all about fire, lightning or ice...
