The Spike cannibla is great since putting counters on creatures has never been out of fashion in Magic. It always is an unexpected way to get rid of creatures that are getting bigger.

It negates the drawback from Aku Djinn.

@Exuberance no what you did was wipe my field and gain a MASSIVE EASILY MODDED SUPER TANK. Good job. *cries and buys 4 of this card online*

Let's not forget what the cannibal here does to our good friend Arcbound Ravager...

Probably best in EDH or other multiplayer formats since SOMEONE is bound to have a bunch of counters, be it the Kresh player, the Thrax player, the Arcbound player, or, hilariously, the Spike player. And they will all hate you.

Spike Hannibal. Likes fava beans and a nice chianti with his food.

@ideatog

While it isn't an ideal solution. If an arcbound deck has a Ravager out then they can just sacrifice everything that would be taken into it so that all the counters go poof instead.

That BlackBlack is what kills it for me. Too situational as is. Can wipe out several deck strategies, yes, but the main problem is it can't be used in your own Spike deck terribly easily.

Yes, but that's because this spike is black while the other are green...

Gonna be playing this in a EDH Mimeoplasm simic grafting deck as sort of a last ditch effort if stuff goes belly up. The rest of the deck's gonna be played with hialrious generosity, my goal being to see certain other players win or lose and accomplishing the task by handing out tokens and abilities to other players, but when it comes down to me and some other guy, chances are I'll have beefed his guys up a lot, and will be able to steal all that beef when i whip out my cannibal. Hopefully... we'll see.

what about putting this guy into a rakdos unleash deck? enemy have you at a disadvantage? drop this guy to have a beefy meat shield while enabling all of your unleashed creatures to block again. Also possibly useful with/against a scavenge deck.

That's a nice Primordial Hydra you've got there. It would be a shame if something were to happen to it...

I've always loved this card, but could never really think of a use for it. Then i stumbled upon Shirei, Shizo's caretaker and suddenly saw a huge potential and this is the result:

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/hungry-cannibals-zombie-friends/

It is still a work in progress, but Its almost done, i'm just trying to cut a few cards to make it 60, currently 63, and i need to find slots for some other important cards.

But essentially anything creature with 0/0 and counters makes a combo with spike cannibal and Shirei.

I decided to go Black/Green (the majority of spikes are green) and combine them with Bridge from below

So... I play an Animar, Soul of the Elements EDH deck. I just hope my friends never find out about this card.

If I play Spike Cannibal and my opponent has a hydra and a Aether Flash out, does the spike take the two damage before or after he takes all counters out in play?

I play Golgari. think Corpsejack + Primordial Hydra then wait a few turns. & play this guy

Just hope your opponent isnt playing undying. On the other hand, play undying. I can also see evolve being decent, since you will get a fatty and be able to retrigger your evolves again, as long as they dont die in the meantime.

There isn't much where having +/+ counters is a bad thing, so this is kinda hard to combo besides the already mentioned interactions like corpsejack.

I suppose it could be considered greedy, (and nobody invites a greedy Cannibal to their birthday parties), but Followed Footsteps, would keep the spoils rolling in from their attempts to rebuild their pathetic, ravished, token empires...
