Sigh, if only an instant. would be useful card advantage to a wrath.

It would only be legitimate as an instant if you bumped the cost up to 5 or 6 or you had to sac something for free. 4 cost dodge a wrath of god isn't balanced.

Setting up the condition for the card to be useful is the major obstacle, otherwise a good card draw for token decks or ones with recurring creatures. This card also give you active sacrifice source for many black/green cards that triggers base on entering graveyard.

Use Dragon Appeasement and some tokens, perhaps off some Emrakul's Hatcher, Sprout Swarm, or Khalni Garden.

I love this card in a cleric/zombie deck with Rotlung Reanimator. Sac clerics, get zombies, and even if someone wipes the board after you will have a full hand to recover from it.

Insane with Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder. Lots of thrull tokens to sacrifice.

Used only once looong time ago, but it proved quite useful... I always liked this card, a lot of flavour and very playable! You can at least sacrifice unuseful lands and weak creature in an advanced stage of the game. Moreover the sacrifice isn't an addictional cost, so in case of Counterspell it doesn't end in card disadvantage. Not the most intuitive card (hence the low rating, imo), but it can prove a huge advantage.
If remade nowadays, it probably would be mythic...

Great card, shame about sorcery, but can't have everything can we?

I run it in black/green thallid/thrul with a couple of Fecunditys.
