A card that is absolutely broken, and Wizards took forever to take notice that is was broken.

This card made far too many other cards broken, including Hypnotic Specter, Juzám Djinn, Hatred, Yawgmoth's Bargain, and fueled Black for 10 years until Wizards stopped reprinting it.

Probably my favorite version of the card, merely because of the way it was printed makes it look far more fitting in my Suicide Black deck. Amazing card, enough said.

Culling the Weak, Cabal Ritual, Song of the Damned, there are tons of different black mana makers, but this is the grand-daddy of 'em all.

The most broken card in all of magic, imo.

I have never been a big player of black, green/white being my preferences, but this card has single-handedly made me take walks on the dark side every now and then. A first-turn 3-drop is something even green can't manage.

With all these new cards, you can drop first turn Vampire Nighthawk and go crazy.

@guest57443454: Yawgmoth's bargain is broken even without this card. I think Necropotence is what you meant.

@socialexperiment: First turn 3 drops are only part of the power of this. You use multiple copies to reduce mana costs greatly. Hell, Ihsan's Shade was played only due to the easy mana this provided, and its un-swordsability

The black cards in alpha were intense, too bad they all got like... kid friendly after a few sets.

I notice that black art now is much more....graphic than in previous sets. I mean, look at some of the thrulls. Which is better?

I've seen someone get a first turn Sengir Vampire by dropping two of these. Quite possibly the most broken card ever 5/5

The closest thing the game of Magic has to a $1 unrestricted Black Lotus. And that easily makes this card a 5/5

This is rated higher than ancestral recall? No. But still, 5/5.

@Jerec:

Ancestral may be more powerful. However, you can actually get one of these without selling your firstborn.

This is very good. Because it is an instant you can leave on mana open and when your opponent is least expecting it you murder or doom blade their creatures. What i do not get is how doing a ritual generates mana
Also spellchecker says mana is not a word.

The most powerful, most expensive, most recognizable, most sought after card ever printed in the game of Magic gives you three mana for a 0.
This card gives you three mana for Black.
and you can have 4 of them in your deck.
and they cost 49 cents.
It's not as good as a Black Lotus, but its really not that much worse either.
