Easy 5-color mana generation. Great.

I concur. This incarnation of Mirri is, simply put, awesome.

I definitely would have expected this effect to come with the cost of a smaller opening hand. It doesn't, and it's ridiculously good.

Strictly better than BoP?

It's not strictly better, since Mirri only affects basic lands. In almost every situation you'd come across, Mirri's effect is better, since you'd probably just build a deck with only basics with her anyhow. Plus, she gains you 5 life where BoP loses you 3.

But it's not strictly better, since BoP lets nonbasics get in on the action.

I won't question the awesomeness of this vanguard.
But am i the only one who doesn't quite grasp why of all creatures they've chosen Mirri to have that ability?

Mirri isn't a druid or something, she's a warrior. Just take a look at this vanguard's flavor text.
There is such a huge amount of famous (green) creatures that can produce mana of any color (even some who straightly make your lands do so), so why not use one of these instead and make Mirri do something else?
(To answer my own question at this point regarding Joiner Adept, it was likely made to evade confusion because of the Basic Land restriction, since we have Birds of Paradise for nonbasics. But still, there are plenty of known mana accelerators out there.)

Now the vanguard version of Mirri the Cursed is more how i'd imagine similarities taken over to vanguard cards.

I think she's garbage. Simply build a good manabase on your own, and you're able to use a Vangaurd card with a more powerful and unique ability.

Good manabases often cost a lot of money, not something I'm really willing to invest in a very casual format that nobody plays, and even then your mana will never be perfect. This card makes your manabase literally perfect, so you will ALWAYS have enough of a particular colour of mana to cast something, with no lands coming into play tapped, no life loss, no chance of lands being destroyed by nonbasic hate, and so on. On top of that, she has no drawback, even giving you 5 life. Just amazing for a 5 colour deck.

Wish the art was better, Mirri should be sexier than that

I am really fascinated by this type of card and its design, very pretty! =)

I have been gone a long time from the game and i don't quite get these particular cards. Where the hell is the casting cost of this? I must have missed a whole damn lot in the 12-13 years since i played regularly.

Bop can be a a LOT better becuase Bop can be used to make your manabase entirely out of cards like mutavault, reliquary tower, maze of ith, strip mine, and so on and so forth.

For everyone asking, this format is called vanguard is on MTGO only as a casual format. you start the game with one of these cards out and they act like emblems, effectively. You own/control them, but they're not on the battlefield, or target-able, or anything. They just exist and affect the game.
