I think a better name for this would possibly be "oops, we didn't realize how nuts giving things double strike actually is"
There's a reason it's been used very sparingly since the mechanic was introduced in the Scourge block and I think this may be that reason.

Basically it has a converted cost of 5 for giving a creature double strike whereBattle Mastery does the same at a converted cost of 3. For being a white card Battle Mastery is pretty impressive.

@ Econael: Cranial plating + cranial plating is a better deal than this + cranial plating, but ya if you have room you could run both.
Comparing this card to Battle Mastery is an EXCELLENT excercise in learning "Equipments should never, ever, ever be thought of as 'Metal Sorceries', and in fact are probably too weak or over powered if you can quickly cast them and equip them in one turn."
Fireshrieker is much better than Battle Mastery- it's colorless, costs the same to cast, and then is reusable for long afterwards. It's slow at first, but it speeds up very quickly because it's DOUBLE STRIKE. Excellent card for EDH, or any casual format, and is reasonable in some Constructed decks (if you are planning on junking around with crap like Animate Dead and Tinker)

If you are running a casual white deck, consider True Conviction, which only costs one more.
