4.5? you people are voting the fact it has "lotus" in the name, aren't you?

thran dynamo does the exact same thing for one mana and rarity less.

this card is perfect for any multi color deck(thran is colorless) that holds the enemy off from turns 1-5 and then blasts them with aton of monsters about 5/5 with all the mana reserves ive been saving for the past 5 turns. this card might cost 5 mana, but the next turn after i play it, ive increased my mana pool from 5 to 8 not counting the 1 i can play that turn.

It's a good card becasuse you add coloured manna whenever you want. Even though it's fixed for the same colour and amount, it's still a good card.

wich one Thran dynamo or this, why not both?
1t: land, sol ring, signet
2t:land, signet, thran dynamo, and 3 mana free
3t: land, this, and you have 8 mana free
4t: you have mana overflow

I sure thought this looked awesome:
Training Grounds + Filigree Sages + Khalini Gem
But I guess changing that to use this card is even more awesome for decks that don't use Landfall.

at first glance, the cost of 5 seems high but you can tap it the turn it comes out, meaning you only spend a net of two mana the turn you cast it... not for every deck but definitely worth it in those with high cmc stuff

It functions like mox in that it sticks around, and functions like a lotus in that you get 3 mana of any color. What a nice card.

@snaderlit:
"1t: land, sol ring, signet
2t:land, signet, thran dynamo, and 3 mana free
3t: land, this, and you have 8 mana free
4t: you have mana overflow "

Okay, but now you've used 8 of your 10-11 cards by the end of turn 3 and haven't done anything yet. So even with that ridiculously unlikely and undesirable hand, you're probably facing a board that looks pretty decent and haven't played anything yet.

While the total mana cost you get after using this (at least 8) means it isn't for every deck - I'd imagine the average deck that isn't badly designed tops out at around 6 or 7 mana - it's still a very good card for certain decks. The fact that it can be used by any color is a huge bonus, as is the ability to still play a 3 CMC card on the turn you play the Lotus - and there are a LOT of good 3 CMC cards you could play.

4.5/5 for sheer potential and ease of use.

500 stars/5 because it's not 2,000 dollars. Every beginner should be given a spare one of these by the person who starts them on the game. period.

Absolutely my favorite "Neo Lotus,"
even if Lotus Bloom is arguably better.

Pretty much an auto-include for any EDH deck I make.

I would gladly pay an extra 1 for this to be a Darksteel Lotus, though.

HIGHLY over rated card. its soooo much fun to nuke this guy, and so much MORE fun to bounce it.

And what else can't you blow up or bounce realistically? This thing is no more vulnerable to spot removal and bounce than any other card excluding maybe 20 cards that can resist both in the whole of magic. Your statement is redundant, just as 'Dies to Doom Blade,' is on any non black bomb.
Now, I'm not sure how this did in constructed back in the day, as I dropped out right before Mirrodin and came back at the end of Alara, this hing would be amazing, and almost an auto include, in any EDH deck. And, not to mention, there's certain ways to cheat this into play, is there not? Also, not affected by Armageddon if you're running that, so another advantage. Overall, in formats where it's viable, great card.

The three free don't need to be used on casting spells (I tend to use it in conjunction with either Serum Tank or Dragon Blood). It also helps you ramp out your bigger threats sooner (even more so if you can drop it third turn...Seething Song into this into another song into...something nasty (search for CMC 5 in red and artifacts); my favorite in that list would probably be Batterskull).

Best turn 1 in a mono black deck:
1. Swamp, Dark Ritual,
2. Dark Ritual, Gilded Lotus,
3. Vampire Nighthawk

If it's so over-rated why waste your answers on it.

If this is in a deck that can make use of it is something that needs to be dealt with. It keeps making it into each of my edh decks and always shines. In Oloro i get three extortions or activations of his ability. In Riku it can usually net me two-three extra copies of a spell... In maeyal.. well then it lets me cast creatures that i actually draw.

And the best part of it all is that losing it isn't game breaking. It's just more mana on top of what is probably a decent base already. But it's pretty ad flashy and screams "Smash Me" and causes opponents to blow their answers on this instead of the key cards it's supporting.
