At random is better than opponent's choice.

I'm fond of it. And Themlsna is right, the "at random" part is what makes it worth the cost.

Andrew's Occasional Random Card of the Day #10 - 7/6/2011 - Mindwhip Sliver

Looking at the older Slivers (Tempest block) versus the newer Slivers (Time Spiral block), and the Slivers in between (Onslaught block) is pretty interesting. The older ones felt half aggro, half toolbox; the middle ones felt half aggro half midrange; the newer ones felt half aggro half weird stuff. Now, that's based on recollection. I'm not looking up all these Slivers, just the Mindwhip Sliver and what stuff comes to mind, like Muscle Sliver, the spirit link Sliver, and Psionic Sliver. Plus there's that defender one . . .

But all the Sliver decks you see tend to be aggro. I think that's how to make Slivers really shine, and that's the type of Slivers everyone's used to, what what you think of when you think 'SliVer'. But little guys like this hint at other possible Sliver decks, ones which I wonder about the power of. When do you know it's time to sacrifice one of your attackers (or blockers?) to make your opponent discard? Which Sliver do you sacrifice? Are you going to make them discard multiple times, or does Mindwhip Sliver basically say, "Sac me: they discard"?

This weird Sliver toolbox build that doesn't focus on attacking could be an interesting experiment, but not one I'm going to do.

Why wasn't this reprinted in the Premium Deck Series: Slivers?

The ruling on this cards are wrong. The ability can be activated "only any time you could cast a sorcery", so you cannot activate immediately, before any other player has a chance to remove it from the battlefield.

All the sac slivers are amazing with Sliver Queen. Make them get rid of all their answers to your hoard, then clear the board with Necrotic Sliver.

3.5/5 because people hate it almost as much as Shifting Sliver in commander.

dannywiz, you're wrong, fortunately. When the sliver enters the battlefield, the stack is now empty and you have priority. No player besides yourself can do something when you have priority. You can sack the sliver and then they can respond, but not until after the sacrificing has been done already.
