In the group I play with, whenever someone casts this, they have to make that face or it's countered. Same for concentrate.

Always seems to draw me at least three cards. Often draws nine or ten in edh. Potentially it can draw 16 with Drago out.
Just that first sentance would have been worth it really, but they all aply.

Combos with Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur to deck yourself with wild abaondon. Hilarious in EDH, of course.

Anyone who's tried this in a deck finds that they're waiting for a permanent to stick or it's BALLS TO THE WALL okay. If you're gonna pay 5 to draw some cards why not make it a sure deal with Tidings?

In casual, this works extremely well with either suspend or affinity. Basically any creature in play can net you five or more cards. I use it in a suspend deck, and there it performs amazingly. Why bother with combos if you can make it more consistent?

In a right setup, it rarely fizzles, but it can and will happen on occasion. This is the case when you're either without counters or you top-deck it on an empty board. However, I'd say the card advantage it provides makes it worth this small risk. This is typically the scenario:

Riftwing Cloudskate, Errant Ephemeron or Deep-Sea Kraken are just entering the battlefield, or Spire Golem is entering for free on the sixth land. Attack if you can first to probe for kill spells, then cast this. I use Misdirection for cover because it can be cast for free (you can use Force of Will, but I don't have a playset), and if multiple creatures enter at once, there's usually no need for it. Take note that creatures are entering on YOUR turn FOR FREE, so 90% of mass kill spells can't be cast on time, and usually the cards you net with this provide you with even more cover and/or more creatures and/or another Rush of Knowledge, making it exponentially more difficult for your opponent to deal with it. Having non-creature cards on the side, perhaps a Jace, the Mind Sculptor, also help to prevent this from fizzling, and at least make it worth your while on a Tidings level.

I'd say it's a solid 4/5, but only for casual games. With the current meta-game, I don't see it work that well on a competitive level because it demands a very specific deck build - the kind where aggro is going to tear you apart.
